Description

E. E. KERN. SHAPlNG AND IRONING TOOL. APPLICATION FILED FEB. 14' \921- Patented May 30, 1922.
- Pm/EMMA? K221 FREDERICK E. KERN, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
SHAPING AND IRONING moon.
Application filed February 14, 1921.
To all whom a may concern:
Be it known that I, F REDERIGK E. citizen of the United States, the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shaping and Ironing Tools, of which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
y invention relates to improvements in shaping and ironing tools, and has for its primary object a tooldesigned for millinery work, which is provided with a heating unit located in the head so that it will not be necessary to lay the tool aside for heating.
A-further object is to construct a and ironing tool which is provided with a KERN, a
portable base into which the tool can be inserted and heated,-the base also serving for holding the tool upright for "certain classes of work. I
In the drawings: I
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of my device.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of the head, supporting rod and base.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the heating coil or unit. I
In the construction of my device I employ a tool having a head 4. This head is eggshaped having the end 5 larger than the end 6. This head is provided with a recess 7 in which the heating coil or unit 8 is inserted. The head is also provided with a screwthreaded portion 9, which receives the hollow supporting rod 10. The hollow supporting rod is provided with an enlargement 11 in which is located a portion of the'heating coil or unit 8. The hollow supporting rod is also provided with screw threads on its upper end to receive the screw-threaded opening 9 formed in the head. Mounted on the hollow supporting rod 10 is a handle 12, which is provided with an opening 13 and in i Specification of Letters Patent.
and resident of a shaping Patented May 30, 1922. Serial No. 444,631.
the opening 13 is an insulating bushing 14%. 15 indicates a portable base providedwith a tapered opening 16, which is adapted to receive the lower tapered end of the handle 12. This base is adapted to support the tool in a verticalposition for certain classes of millinery work and the tool may be readily removed from the base, when desired. 17 indicates the conductor which is in electrical connection with the heating cartridge or unit 8 and passes out through the opening 1.3 in the handle 12 and has a plug or socket 18. 19 indicates the conductor leading to the source of electrical engrgy, which is also provided with the plug It will be observed from the foregoing de scription that the heating unit or cartridge 8 not only heats the head 4, but also the enlargedportion of the supporting rod 11.
Having fully described my invention,
what]: claim is 1. A shap ng and ironing tool comprising an egg-shaped head,
secured to the head, said supporting rod, a plug carried by handle, conductors passing through the side of the handle connected to the plug and the heating coil and a detachable base for holding the tool in an upright position.
2. A shaping and ironing tool comprising an egg-shaped head, a handle, a supporting rod connecting the head and handle, a heating coil located in the head and supporting rod, aplug carried by the handle, conductors connecting the plug and heating coil, a base provided with a tapered opening adapted to receive the handle ing rod. 1
In testimony whereof, I name to this specification.
FREDERICK E. KIERN.
