Description

2 Sheets--Sheet 2 A. BA HR.
Harvester-Bakes. N0. l4],658. I Patented August12,1873.
AM. PHOTU-UTHOERAPH/C ca MY (assamm's mamas) U NITED' STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AMOS BANK, OF SALEM, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN HARVESTER-RAKES- Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 141,668, dated August 12, 1873; application filed May 4, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AMos RANK, of Salem, Golumbiana county, and State of Ohio,-have invented a new and useful Improvement in Harvesters, of which the following is a specification:
The object of the improvement herein claimed is to prevent the rake from striking the driving-wheel by means of an adjustable stop on the coupling-arm, as hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, which show my improvement as embodied in the wellknown ZEtna harvester, invented and patented by me, Figure l is a plan, Fig.2, a rear elevation; and Fig. 3, a front elevation.
The driving-wheels A A turn loosely on the main axle, with which they are connected by suitable backing-ratchets. The main frame B is mounted on the axle. A tongue, 0, projects from the front of this frame. A box platform or frame platform, D, covers the frame and gearing. A rod, E, passes through the eyes and transversely thereto. A pawl, g, pivoted on the frame takes into ratchet-teeth on the lever G, and holds it in any desired position. A drag-bar, H, is pivoted in a bearing or collar, h, pin-jointed at h to the rocking-lever G, so as to form a swivel-joint. ,A finger-beam, I, is secured at its heel end to a shoe, I, pivoted behind to the drag-bar by a-pin, i, and secured in front to a bracket, 6, on the dragbar. A coupling-arm, J, is pivoted at one end to a down-hanger, J, of the main frame by a swivel-joint, and at the other to the shoe at j. An adjustable stop, K, held at any desired point on the coupling-arm by a clamp-screw, 7c, abuts against the rake-standard L, mounted on the shoe and finger-beam, and prevents the rake from striking the driving-wheels.
The details of the grain-wheel, platform, and rake need no description here, being shown in my former patents.
I claim as my invention- The combination of the shoe, the rake-standard, the coupling-arm, and the adjustable stop thereon, all these members operating in com bination, as set forth, to prevent the rake from striking the driving-wheel and to make the joint rigid in one direction.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name.
AMOS RANK. Witnesses:
WILLIS CADWALLADER, ORLANDO RANK.
