Be\it known that we, JOSEPH E. RELLER and WILLIAM KRECKER, citizens of the United States, residing at Long Beach, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful lmprovements in Can Openers and Sealers, of which the following is a specification.l
This invention relates to container and can receptacle punches and closing means,
vide a simple, inexpensive, substantial, practicable, durable and effective device to, secure the punching of the tops of metallic con.
tainers such, for instance, as metallic milk cans so as to provide a pouring aperture and a vent. aperture in the punctured end of the can, and further to provide such a device' that will be serviceable to close the apertures after they have been made. The invention consists of the punching and closingdevice a form of whichis illustrated in the accompanying drawings and described and claimed herein.

The device consists of a rigid and, preferably, metallic plate or'body portion 2 of any suitable length and width and shape, in plan, and the plate is provided adjacent one I end with downwardly extending guide form- 'les ing and positioning tongues or lugs 3 intermediately between which there is provided an extending eye part 4, preferably, integrally formed of the sheet material of which the body 2 is made; the eye ort/rin part 4 being shown .as in the plane offt e body part 2. These punching teeth 5-6 may be pro-- vided and arranged in any suitable manner and number, and as here shown consist of conical hardened steel prongs riveted as at tured the tongues 3-3 are adjusted against the upper corner of the can and this will arrange the punches 5--6 'in a'diametrical line on opposite sides of the center of the top, and by the application of necessary pressure the punches will be forced through the top T and may be driven down until the plate 2 is in close juxtaposition to the top T at which time the annular shoulders 8 about the basesof the punches 5 -6 will rest on the contiguous portion of the top about the apertures made.

By this device all of the holes may be punched simultaneously 'by a blow or pressure upon the punching means or the punches may be pressed 1n by pressure on 'either end of the device successively'.
