Application led .Tune 7, 1919. Serial No. 302,436.
To all fr0/wm t may concer/1t.' v
Be :it known that l, ANTHONY VAssnLLr, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Newark, county of Essex, and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful improvement in Turntables, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to turn-tables for talking machines, and has for its objects to provide such a structure which will be light in weight, strong and rugged in construction, cheap to manufacture, andmore elastic in nature, whereby a cushioning effect will be produced.
A further object of the invention is to provide means of the character herein described, simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and ellicient in its purpose and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view to be be more fully set forth hereinafter, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described in the specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings considered togethery or separately.
The invention will be rst described in connection with the accompanying drawings illustrating one embodiment of my invention, wherein similar reference characters are used to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and then more specifically defined and indicated in the appended claims.
In the drawings,-
Fig. 1 is a bottom plan view of a turn-A table embodying my invention; and
Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
In carrying out my invention, l provide a base plate 1 of sheet metal, stamped or otherwise shaped to circular form, and having a depending peripheral flange 2 and a depressed central portion 3, having a perforation 4. A fitting 5 lis riveted to the under side of the base plate, and is provided with a cylindrical lug 6, which latter has a tapered bore 7 for engagement with the turn-table shaft of a talking machine motor. The base is provided with a plurality of slots 8 arranged in circular form and spaced a short distance from the periphery of the plate 1.
A supplemental disc 9 is 'carried on `the base plate; said disc'9 may havea compara-y tively small perforation at its center/through which the end of the turn-table spindle may project, but is preferably yin the form ofan annulus, having quite a large' centralopeling v1O`as shown; kThe opening `1O"in the plate y9 is preferably, but not necessarily of approximately the same diameter as the'de! pressed portion ofthe plate 1. f"
The, disc 9 is provided with a pluralityof preferably `integral tongues 11 which may be struck from the plate." The numberof tongues 11 corresponds to the number of slots 8.
A cover 12 preferably of plush or velvet is secured to one side of the disc 9, as by cement or in any suitable manner. The edge of the cover 12 is turned over the edge of the disc 9, as shown in Fig. 2.
The disc is now placed on the base plate with the covered yside of the `disc outward, and the turned over edge of the cover between the disc and basey plate. The tongues 11 will extend through the slots 8, and are bent upward, against the under side of the base plate.
The disc 9 will notrest directly on the base plate, but will be separated therefrom by the thickness of the turned over portion of the cover 12, whereby when pressure is applied toa record disc carried on the disc 9, the latter will have a cushioning or yielding eifect, and thus prevent injury to the record groove by the reproducing stylus.
ln accordance with the provisions of the patent statute, I have described the principle of my invention, together with the apparatus which l now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof, .but l desire it understood that my invention is not limited to the particular form of apparatus herein shown and described, as it is obvious tha tthe particular embodiment herein shown and described is only illustrative of my invention, and that other means can be em- 'ployed to obtain these objects and accomplish these results, without departing from the spiritof my invention.
Y Having now described my invention, what l claim and desire to ysecure by Letters Patent is:
1. A turn-table, comprising a base plate, a disc carried by the plate, a yielding material. interposed between the base plate and disc, and means for holding the disc to the base plate.
2.r A' turn-table, comprising a base plate, a disc carried by the plate, a yielding material covering one side of the dise and eX- tendingbetween the plate and disc, and meansrfor holding the disc to the base plate.
turn-table, comprising a base plate, a disc carried by and spaced from the base plate, yielding means interposed between upon said dise and having its outer edge turned over and under the peripheral edge of said disc, the said disc having tongues adapted to engage the plate of the turntableu to secure the disc thereon with the inturned edge of the pad between the disc and plate.
6. In a turn-table including a base plate having. a series of slots therein, a dise, and pad of yielding material fitted upon said disc and having' its outer edge turned over and under the peripheral edge of said disc, thesaid disc having integral tongues adapt ed to engage the slots in said plate to securethe `disc on said plate with the inturned edge of the pad between the disc and plate.
This specication signed and witnessed this 2nd day of June, 1919.
