, UNITED. STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADAM'IL- GRISWOLD, OF DENVER, COLORADOI;
BILLIARD couNrER.
Application filed July 20,
This invention has reference to improve" ment in game accessories, having for an object to provide an improved point or score keeping button such as is used in recording the various points made in the game of billiards or pool which will i be particularly advantageous for replacing broken buttons upon a rod, wire orother support wlthout necessity of disturbing such support or the remaining buttons thereon.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a button of the character mentioned which when arranged upon a support in assembled condition, will be positively pre vented from being displaced therefrom and also, will be allowed free movement along the support as may be desired.
Other objects will be in part obvious and in part pointed out hereina ter.
In order that the invention and its mode of operation may be readily understood'by persons skilled in the art, I have in the accompanying illustrative drawing and in the detailed following description based thereon, set out one embodiment of the same.
In these drawings: 1
Figure 1 is a side elevation showing a plurality of the improved counters upon a suport; p F igure2 is a front elevation of one of the counters;
Figure 3 is a similar view of one section of one of the counters;
Figure 4 is an edge view of acounter tion;
Figure 5 is a like view; and,
Figure 6 is a disassembled perspective of a counter.
Having more particular reference to the drawings, in connection with which like characters of reference will designate corresponding parts throughout the several Views, my improved button or counter comprises a pair of complimental longitudinally sec- Spccificationof LettersPatent. Pat t d lu 16; 1922.
1921. Serial No. 486,100.
d v ded sections 1 and 2 having oppositely disposed radial slots ,3 and aformed therein. the opposite side walls of I cut at a bevel as clearly indicated at 5. Formed integral with the inner or plane faces of the sections 1 and 2m radially disposed'bosses or ribs 6 and 7, these ribs,-
as will'be noted, being arranged in ali nment with the inner ends of the respective slots 3 andtof said sections 1 and 2 and being formed with under cut sides 8, corresponding to the beveling at 5 of the opposite side walls of the slots in the button sections.
In order that the outer side of each of the the continuity of surface of the outer faces of the button sections 1 and 2,the same, as
will be noted upon reference to the Figure 1 are beveled as at 9, while the upper portions thereof are formed plane to correspond pith 1the central portions 10 of the sections anc 2.
In using my improved button, the complemental sections 1 and 2 are first disengaged by sliding the same in opposite directions. At this time, one of the sections of the button is engaged with the wire to on which the same is to be supported, whereupon the opposite section is moved onto the wire, which enters the radial slot therein. With continued engagement f the remaining section with the first section, its radial slot will move over the extension on said first section, while the slot of said first section will be closed by the engagement of the rib of the opposite section therein. WVith the several sections 1 and 2 thus assembled, the same may be joined by an adhesive substance which has been previously applied to the inner surfaces thereof, although, of course, it is to be understood that various forms of connecting these sections in their assembled relation may be employed, such as con ditions or preference may dictate. Due to the fact that the radial slots 3 and 4 and the extensions or ribs 6 and 7 are under cut or beveled, it will be understood that the same when once engaged will serve to prevent relative lateral and rotary movement as between the sections. The connecting means employed as between the two sections, will prevent disassembling'of the sections. With the button so assembled upon the wire to, itof course will be understood that the same may be moved freely therealong from one position to another as may be desired.
said slots being.
extensions or ribs 6 and 7 will conform with Manifestly, the construction shown is capable of considerable modification and such modification as is Within the scope of my claims, I consider Within the spirit of my invention.
I claim:
1. A device of the character described comprising a body composed of longitudinally divided complemental sections having oppositely disposed radial slots formed therein, oppositely disposed radial ribs formed 011 the inner sides of said sections aligning With the inner end of the slots in their respective sections and adapted to be slidably introduced into the radial slots of the opposite sections, the Walls of said slots and the sides of said ribs being formed to permit of their sliding introduction but to prevent of relative lateral movement between said sections subsequently to such in troduction.
2. A device of the character described comprising a body composed of longitudinally divided complemental sections having oppositely disposed radial slots formed therein the side Walls of Which are beveled, oppositely disposed radial ribs formed on the inner sides 01 said sections aligning with the inner ends of the slots in their respective sections said ribs having under out side 5 Walls and being adapted for snug reception in the radial slots of their respective oppoite sections whereby to prevent of relative lateral or rotary movement as between said sections.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
ADAM H. (BFR-ISWOLD.
