Description
H. w. R008 UFTING IMPLEMENT. APPLICATION FILED vDEC. I4. 1920.
Patented May 9, 1922.
ATTORNEY end the arms 19 are preferably provided with web port-ions 2'? over the bearings of spindle 21. A. handle 28 is preferably pro vided in extension of the arm 19 of the forked member, forming a lever for operating the implement.
in use, after the shore has been approximately adjusted with its tubular part 10 on the ground or other support, and with the parts extended to bring block 12 against the object to be sustained, the hook-like extension of the lifting implement or jack is engaged with the tubular part 10 with the cam surfaces 20 of arms 19 in engagement with the lower ends of the elements. By applying downward pressure to the handle 28 in this arrangement the upper extensible part is forced upwardly to apply supporting pressure to the object to be su tained or to elevate the latter as may be required. i hen the parts are extended, the yokes or jaws l3 tend to grip the part 10 and retain the shore in adjusted position, and such action of the yokes may be insured by turning up the nut 15. The above de scribed operation the jack may, of course, be repeated as often as necessary to produce the desired extension of tie shore, the hook 25 being readily slid along part 10 to sue-- cessive positions of engagement, and when the adjustment is completed, the ack may be easily and quickly removed from the shore.
As indicated in the drawings, the lifting implement or jack is simple and practical in construction and reliable and efficient in operation, being readily manipulated by a single operator and enabling him to bring to bear a very effective pressure.
I claim as my invention:
1. A. jacking instrument for the relatively movable parts of an extensible shore comprising a pair of members pivotally connected with each other and each formed. for detachable engagement with one of said shore parts to effect relative movementthereof, and a handle portion on one of said members.
2. A jacking instrument for the relatively movable parts of an extensible shore comprising; a member formed for detachably ipping one of said shore parts to serve as a fulcrum, and a second member movably supported by said fulcrum member and formed for detachable en gement with the other of said shore parts to effect relativemovement of the latter.
3. A jacking: instrument for the relatively movable parts of an extensible shore comprising a gripping member for detachably gripping; one of said shore parts to serve as a fulcrum, and a lever pivotally supported by said gripping member for detachable engagement with the other of said shore parts to elfectrelative movement of the latter.
A. lifting implement for an. adjustable shore having extensible parts, comprising a forked member provided. with spaced arms adapted to engage one of said extensible parts, a hook shaped member pivotally connected with said forked member and lo- (rated between said arms for engagement with another of said parts, and handle means for operating the implement.
ll. lifting implement for an adjustable shore havinp; extensible parts, comprising a forked member provided with spaced arms adapted to engage one of said extensible parts, a spindle carried by said arms, a member pivotally carried by said spindle between said arms having a hook-like extension for engagement with the other of said parts, and handle means for operating said implement.
6. A lifting implement for an adjustable shore having extensible parts, comprising a forked member provided with spaced arms havingcam surfaces adapted for engage,
ment with one of said extensible parts, a member pivotally connected with said forked member between said arms, a hooklike extension on said second member provided with opposed spaced bearing; surfaces for engagement with another of said tensible parts, and handle means for operating said implement.
7. ll lifting implement for an adjustable shore having extensible parts, comprising a forked member provided with spared arms having cam surfaces adapted for engage ment with one of said extensible parts, a spindle between said arms having bearings at its ends in the latter, a member pivotally carried by said spindle having a hook-like extension provided with opposed spaced bearing surfaces for engagement with anther of said extensible parts, and handle means for operating; said implement.
8, s'l lifting; implement for an adjustable shore having; a pair of extensible parts, one emlnacin;- the other, comprising a forked member havine: or! spaced to clear the in-- 1th the outer of said cam surfaces on. ar with said outer part, l pivotally carried on said forked member he ween "d hook-linetension. on said second member provided with curved bearing; surfaces adapted for detachable engagement with opposite sides of the inner of said extensible parts, and a handle on said forked member for operating the implement.
