"DAMPER Fon 't*LuEs AND THE L KE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERNHARD Gnnrmir, a citizen of the German Republic, and residing at Halle-on the-saale,Germany, have (for which I have filed applications in Germany August 21, 1916, Design Patent No.
651,938, and also in Germany March 5, 1918, Design Patent No. 681,178,) of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a fine damper constructed vin the manner of Venetian blinds and intended for controlling the pas-.
sage of smoke or the like through flues or conduits or the like. The flue consists of a plurality of parallel plates or strips, each of which has a pivot at each of its short edges, and the pivots lie in oblong holes provided in profiled iron rails located the one at. the one side, the other at the other side of that plurality of plates or strips. The oblong holes lie horizontal and the pivots roll upon the loweredges of said holes, that is to say:
they do not rotate as in circular holes,
There arises, thus, only rolling friction, but not sliding one, whereby the adjustability of the damper is greatly improved.
Adjusting the plates or strips is effected by a draw-rod which is connected with the plates or strips by links movably connected with the said plates or strips, as well as with the said rod, and the adjustment i effected by lifting or lowering that rod. .An important feature concerning this rod is that it is subdivided into two parts, of which the one is located at the one side of the. damper and the other at the other side of the damper,
in such a manner, that the weights of the two parts balance each other either completely or at least approximately, which also contributes to an easy actuation of the damper..
In order to make. my invention more clear, I refer to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a front view of the damper and shows it in closed state; Figure 2 is a side view of the damper showing it in open state; Figure 3 is a plan, the position of the plates or strips (of which only one is to be seen) corresponding to Figure 1; and Figure 4 shows in its left part a portion of one of the ide rails on a larger scale and seen from the inner side,'and in its right part a vertical section throughthis rail portion.
Each of the parallel plates or strips a is provided with two pivots b, and each pivot Specification of LettersPatent. l latentgdA y sy Application filed September 2, 1921; Sam N6.4 9s,091. i A
is supported 'in ahorizontal oblong hole of *the'parallel vertical side'rails (l. The pivots may thus roll' in the holes from'rthe leftto the right, and reversely, whereby the friction invented certain new and useful Improve ments in a Damper for Flues and the. like,
turning in circular holes,v in which gliding into two parts, of which the one is located,
in front of the plates and the otherat their rear. The'two rod parts 7 f are connected with the plates at by links g.- One of the plates has a link 9 at its front, as well as its rear, whereby the weight of the two rod parts is practically balanced and the resist ance to motion is either completely compensated or rendered at least approximately constant.
Having now described my invention, what I desire to 'secure'by a patent of theUnited States is r 1. .A- damperi for-'fiues, Qconduits, and the like, comprislng, in combination: a set of parallel damping elements, lateral pivots at said elements; lateral supports for'the elements, oblong hole provided in said sup ports and being engaged by said pivots; and.
means for operating'the said-elements.
2. A damper for fiues, conduits, and the like, comprising, in combination: a set of parallel damping elements; lateral pivots at said elements; lateral support for-the ele-.
ments; horizontal oblongholes provided in said supports and being engaged by said supports; and operating means hinged 'to' V the said elements, substantially as described. 3. A damper for flues, conduits, and the like, comprising, in combination: a. set'of parallel damping elements; lateral pivots at said elements; lateral supports for the ele ments, horizontal oblong holes provided in said supports and being engaged by said sup- 7 ports; links hinged to the said elements, and rods connected with said links, for the pur pose set forth.
4. A damper for flues, conduits, and'the like, comprising, in combination: 'a set of",
parallel damping elements; lateral pivotsat said elements; lateral supports-for the elements; horizontal oblongholes provided in bipartite rod, of which the one part is connected with said links on the one sideofthe said upports and being engaged by said supports; links hinged to the elementsjand a Y I said elements, and the other part-is'con nccted with said links on the other side of the said elements, substantially and for the purpose as described.
5. A damper for fines, conduits, and the like, comprising, in combination: a set of parallel plates; a pivot at the short edge of each plate; two vertical lateral supports for said plates; horizontal oblong holes provided in the supports and being engaged by the pivots; a set of links attached to a part of the said plates on the one side, and a set of links attached to a part of the said plates on the other side of the set; and rods connected with said links and being adapted to actuate the plates by the mediation of the said links, substantially as described.
6. A damper for fiues, conduits, and the like, comprising, in combination: a pluralbars, substantially and for the purpose as described.
In testimony whereof I have aiiixed my signature in presence of tWoWitnesses.
