Application filed July 25,
be attached in any suitable manner to a garment, and so constructed that the pivoted members thereof may be easily and quickly. positioned so as to clasp a stocking or other article to be supporter.
A further object is to form theclasp in such a manner that the finger operated member when pivoted to release the fabric or article held in the end of the clasp will raise the clamping jaw which is carried by said finger operated member, then when the finger operated member reaches a certain point, said clamping jaw will be pivoted outwardly at its lower end by the extreme movement of the finger engaging member.
with the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit or the invention.
In the drawings 2-- y Figure 1 is a perspective view of the clasp showing the same in a closed position.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the clasp showing the same in closed position.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the clasp.
Figure 4 is a vertical sectional View taken on line 4 1 of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is vertical sectional view showing the parts in open position.
Figure 6 is a collective perspective view of the upper end of the base plate and the finger engaging member.
Figure 7 is a perspective detail view of the pivoted end of the clamping member.
Referring to the drawings the numeral 1 designates a base plate, said base plate having ears 2 perferably stamped iromthe baseplate 1, which ears are provided w th apertures 3 for the reception of lugs i of the CLASP.
Specification of Letters Patent. Pattgirijfitl 28, 1922.
1919. Serial No. 313,223.
linger engaging plate 5. Lugs a are formed integral with the edge of the roll 6, and extending downwardly from said roll fiisthe finger engaging portion? "of the member The edges 8 of the member 5 areprovided with ears 9, which ears overlie the legs at and the ends of the r0116 and perform the function of maintaining and preventing the springing of the lugs l out engagenient with apertures '23, of the ears tion of themeinber 5 forming the roll 6 is cut away as at lOthereby forming a lug 11, which lug passes throughaperture 12 in the clamping plate 13. Clamping plate 1-5 is provided with a right angle clamping portion 1a which projects into the interior of the roll (3 and is provided on its outer edge with a lug 15 which registers with an aperture 16 in the bottom of the roll 6, said aperture allowing the right angle portion 1% to be wider than would otherwise be possible. Clamping member 13 extends downwardly and'is bent as at 17 and 18, so as to form an oilset portion 19, which portion 19 allows spring action in said clamping member, when the end 2-0 thereof is forced down wardly'for clamping a piece of material between the end 20 and the interior of the hook 21 carriedby the base plate 1. The clamping plate 13 is'provided with an aperture 22, by means of which aperture the finger may be inserted or an instrument inserted under the end oi the finger engag- 111g member 5.
When it is desired to release the clamp the linger is placed under themember 5 and the same moved upward on its pivotal point, which action will raise the clamping mem ber 13 until it assumes position as shown in Figure 5, during this raising act-ion it will be noted that the clamping member 13 will be moved outwardly from the base plate 1, however a further movement in the upward direction oi the free end of the member 5 will cause the right angle portion 14; of the clamping member 13 to engagethe under face of the member 5 within the roll as shown at 23 in Figure The under surfaces of the right angle portion let being in engagement with the shoulders formed by the cutaway portions 10, said cutaway portions wilh when themember is moved upwardly cause the lower end of the pivoted member 13 to move outwardly in the direction oi the arrow 0. l igure 5, thereby allowing the necessary room for placing the fabric of the article to be supported within the hooked end 21. The pivotal point between themembers 5 and 13 is a loose one thereby allowing the free movement of the pivoted parts without binding; ,7
The invention having been set i'orth what is claimed asnew anduseful is V Ina device of the character described com- )risin a base havin a hook at one end by the roll in relation to the base carried ears, the roll of the finger engaging member terminating in a lug engaging the rear face of said member, a clamping. member having its upper end provided with a right angle portion, said rightangle portion being pivoted and extending into .the'roll of the finger engaging member at a point adjacent'the rear face thereof, the lower end of the clamping member being adapted to engage the hook of theba'se member when the finger engaging member is forced downwardly ,fOr clamping material between the base hook and the clamping members.
In testimonyrwhereof I have signed my name tothis specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GUSTAV NOB-MAN.
