Be it known that l, FRANK Buisson, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pontiac, in the county of Oakland and State of Michigan. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carburetors7 oi' which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to carburetors einploying in their construction die cast parts, and has for its object. the avoidance of certain defects incident to such construction. It has been found that many parts of the carburetor can be formed by die castings containing chambers or passages for the carbureted mixture. On the other hand, Where liquid fuel passages are formed in such castings, it is diilicult to maintain the same leal;n prooibecause of the typical occurrence of the blow holes' in die castings, particularly where the liquid is under any head or pressure as, for instance, the feed line to the oat chamber. -With certain constructions as heretofore made, the cover ot the .float cha1nber is formed integral with the main casing of the carburetor and of a die casting, while the fuel supply is through a passage in this cover cont-rolled by the float valve. This construction has the obj ection above referred to and has resulted in the leakage of the fuel past the float valve, thereby flooding the float chamber.
lVith the present construction employ substantially the same structure of die cast casing including the cover for the :float chamber, but use in combination therewith a fitting of leak-proof material forming the fuel supply connection, the seat for the float valve. and also a strainer and sediment chamber. l

There is also a gasket placed about the threaded portion K bearing against the upper end of the member Q and a clamping nut U engaging said threaded portion contacts with this gasket and seals the joint.
With the construction described the. fuel supply line (not shown) is coupled-to the nipplev R and the stem lV of the tioat valve engages the counterbore in the lower end of the member4 G seating against the shoulder M. Thus when the ioatvalve is in act-ion, the. incoming liquid in the fuel line is in no place in contact with the die cast part. Also, the liquid in passing 'into the float chamber is freed from any foreign substance by the screen P andlany sediment which collects will lodge in the chamber at the lower end ot' said screen. To increase the capacity of the sediment chamber Without interfering with the action of the screen, the latter is supply passes supported upon a ledge X, which is of polygonal form to provide a. wrench hold for screwing the member G into enga-gement with the cap I". The corners of this ledge X form spacers for properly centering the member Q., while the spaces intermediate the corners form the sediment chamber, The construction is one which can be made largely from bar stock by automatic machines and is therefore inexpensive to manufacture while it effectually cures the defects incident to forming liquid passages in the 'die casting.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. In a carburetor, the combination with a die cast part including the cover of the float chamber, of a fitting formed of a leakproof material secured to said cover and constituting a seat for the oat valve, and a connection for the fuel supply line.
2. In a carburetor, the combination with a die cast part including a cover for the float chamber, of a fitting secured to said cover and `formed with a seat for the float valve, a coupling for the supply line, a screen, and a sediment chamber.
3. In a carburetor, the combination with a die cast part including a cover for the float chamber, of a fitting comprising a post member having an engagement with said cover and extending upward therefrom, said post being hollow and having a seat formed therein for the float valve and ports opening outward from the portion above said seat, a screen surrounding said post, al hollow casing surrounding said screen and forming a sealing joint with said post, and a connection between said hollow casing and the supply line.

In a carburetor, the combination with a die cast part including a cover for the float chamber, of a fitting including a post member having a threaded lower end forV engaging correspondingly threaded apertures in the cover, a collar or flange above said threaded portion, a shank of reduced diameter above said flange terminating in a threaded upper portion, said post bein hollow with an opening at the lower en and being counterbored to forman annular seat therein for the Heat valve with ports opening outward from the portion above said seat, a. screen surrounding said post and spaced from the shank thereof, a hollow member sleeved upon said post and spaced from the screen, the lower end of said memfor engaging the t ber forming a sealing joint with said collar or flange on the ost, and a clamping nut readed upper end of said post for securing said hollow member and forming a sealing joint therewith, said hollow member constituting a coupling to the fuel supply line, and a chamber for containing the screen.
5. In a carburetor, the combination with a die cast part including a cover for the float chamber, of a. itting comprising a post member having the threaded lower end for engaging the threaded aperture in the cover, a flange or collar above said threaded portion, a reduced shank above said flange or collar terminating in a threaded upper end, said post being hollow and open at its lower end with a counterbore for forming an annular seat therein for engagement with the float valve, and ports through the reduced portion above said seat, a polygonal portion on said post above said flange forming a wrench hold and a spacci', a hollow member sleeved upon said post and spaced from the shank thereof by the corners of said polygonal spacer, a screen surrounding said reduced shank within said hollow7 member, and a clamping nut engaging the upper threaded portion of said post for securing said hollow member with the sealing joint between the same and said post, said hollow member constituting a ycoupling to the fuel supply line, and a sediment chamber with pockets formed by the polygonal portion between the corners thereof and below said screen.
'6. In a carburetor, the combination with a die cast part including a cover for the float chamber, of a post member of leakproof material removably secured to said cover and provided with a bore, said member having a counterbore at one end forming a seat for a float valve and having aplurality of ports formed therein, a screen surrounding a portion of the post member, a hollow member sleeved upon the post member and having a connection for the fuel supply line, and a ledge carried by the post member beneath the screen for properly centering the hollow member and to provide a sediment chamber.
