INIPRVEMENT IN PUDDLINGFURNACE DOORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,730, dated July 8, 1873; application filed April 11, 1813.
y.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J oHN S. BEES, of Phillipsburg, in the county of Warren and'in the State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in NVater- Frame and Door for Paddling and Heating Furnaces; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification. y
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a door-frame and door for puddling and other furnaces, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. y
In order to enable others skilled in the art to-w-hich my invention appertains to make and use .the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and oper-ation, referring to the annexed draw-ing, in which- Figure 1 is afront elevation, and Fig. 2 `is a plan View of my frame and door.
A represents the door-frame, and B the sliding door of a puddling or other furnace.` The frame A contains within it a tube, C, which may be bent and fitted to different shapes and forms. a represents the inlet to said pipe G, through which the water is admitted, and b is the outlet connected, by asliding joint, d, or rubber or other hose, with a water-tube, D, contained within the door B, and also bent and fitted in any desired shape and form.
Each tube may be one continuous piece, or made with elbows; but it will be more dura ble if made of one piece of pipe. In case of low water the pipe will not crack; or if the water is stopped and the tubing becomes redhot a stream of water put into the pipes will not crack them as it will cast-iron.- Again,

The door B with its water-tube D may be made precisely in the same manner as described for the frame A, but the brick-work in the door is made in one, so that it can be taken out and replaced-ina few minutes, while furnace is being worked. 0n the frame A are adjustable dovetail guides GG, in which the door works, which are of great importance to the frame, with or without the water. The dovetail keeps the door in its proper place, and will protect the tubing when taking iron from the furnace. The guides are adjusted by means of bolts 71. h passing through slots i in the guides, whereby the door may be kept tight and stationary in ,any position the worker may desire, and .dispenses with the use of lugs, pins, and bars, now so generally used.
At the lower edge of the door B is an aperture, m, closed by astoppcr, H. This stopper is arranged to slide in dovetailed guides n n, and remains on the door; and it is held up by a spring, I, while working the iron and while taking the iron fromv the furnace, instead of taking the stopper orf. i
Having thus fullydescribed my invention, what I claim as new, anddesire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. vThe combination of the frame A, door B,
and adjustable guides Gr Gr, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The combination of the door B, stopper H, and spring I, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
