WWZM L UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OTTO SCHEIB, 0F BARMEN, GERMANY.
HAIR GURLER.
Application filed May 27, 1914. Serial No. 841,327.
(GRANTED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THE ACT OE MARCH 3, 1921, 41 STAT. L, 1313.)
To (all whom it may concern Be it known that I, O'rro Sol-min, a sub jectof the German Emperor, residing at Barmen, State of Prussia, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair Curlers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hair curlers consisting of a core, an external flexible covering and intervening filling material; and
consists in the special kind of filling employed in combination; with the other elements as hereinafter more particularly set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a hair curler embodying my invention; and
Figure 2, asimilar view partly in side elevation, partly in central longitudinal section and partly sectioned on a plane parallel to said central section and between it and the surface.
The usual longitudinal lead rod a constituting the core of the hair curler is immediately surrounded by and embedded in filling material 0, which is covered by a flexible sheath 6, which may be of braided fabric as shown, and gives form and a smooth yielding surface to the hair curler. The filling material 0 consists of threads wound tightly and permanently around the said core after the manner of gimp so that the successive convolutions or windings of the thread of each layer will lie closely and regularly against each other and the filling may be relied on to hold its shape exactly. This material supplies an unusually high degree of flexibility and elasticity, adequately and evenly packing all parts of the sheath or covering Z), effectually and closely surrounding all parts of the core a with material of homogeneous texture and making a very satisfactory hair-curler.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a hair-curler having an exterior elongated flexible sheath, tapering from its middle to its ends, and a gimp filling therefor consisting of a metallic core and thread wound tightly and permanently thereon, said filling taking the shape of the sheath.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a hair curler {having an exterior flexible sheath and a gimp fillinlg therefor consist ing of a metallic core and thread wound ti htly and permanently thereon, said core and thread fitting tightly within said sheath.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
