In the drawing, Figure l is a plan of the said charging apparatus. Fig. 2 shows the same sectionally, as in a retort, and containing the-charge; and Fig. 3 is a section with the hinged bottom raised and the coal discharged.

lhe frame a is of suitable size, and either slides or runs upon Wheelsb. W'hen in the retort this frame is supported by the bottoni, and when out of the retort it rests upon suitable tracks or Ways that can be moved along from one retort to the other. The tracks or ways may have rollers near the retort, upon which the liame a rolls. These devices do not require further description.
