To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I,'EDw1 IV. Knuins, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mel rose, county of Middlesex, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in W'ater Heaters, of which the following is a specification, reference being ha -d therein to the accompanying drawings. 1
My invention. has for its object a water heater of a simple and effective character which can be secured to a water faucet and supplied with steam and will mix the water with steam and heat it. It is particularly intended for use in boiler rooms, office buildings, and similar places where there is no supply of hot water but where itis possible 4 to obtain both cold water and steam. The
present invention is also particularly adapted for use with low'pressure'steamsystems.
The invention will be fully understood from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and the novel features thereof will be pointed out and clearly defined in the claims at the close of this specification.
Referring to the drawings, Fig. l is a ver tical section of a hot water heater embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the valve cage.
Fig. 3is a section on line 3, 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a section on line 4, 4 of Fig. 1. .Referring now to the drawings, at 11 is shown the water chamber provided on its upper side with a screw-threaded connection for attachment to a cold water faucet not shown. The lower part of the water chamber is formed in a separate piece'13 which is secured to the upper part 11 by Screw threads 14. This partof the water chamber. has a water outlet 17. Within the said water chamber and formed integral with the upper part thereof is a steam chamber 15 the lower portion of which is corrugated to give a greater heat radiating surface as shown in Figure 4. The steam chainber 15 has steam outletports 16 communicat ing with the interior of the water chamber. At 18 is shown a steam inlet passage which is screw-threaded for connection with the steam pipe not shown. Within this steampassage is a valve cage 19 (see particularly Figures 2 and 3). This valve cage is made conveniently of sheet metal and is flanged 1. This arrangementmakes it possible to use the improved hot water heater on lowpressure steam systems when it would otherwise be impossible because, as has been found in actual experience with such water heaters, the water will flow. throughinto the steam inlet' pipe instead of escaping through the outlet opening 17. The arrangement herein described is simple and effective andentirely prevents any difficulty resulting from low pressure ini th steamsystem.
