l IMPROVEMENT m ROOFING COMPOSiTIONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,366, dated July 1,1873; application filed March 18, 1873.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, WILLIAM H. HAIGH'L and THOMAS S. GLADDING, of Leavenworth, in the county of Leavenworth and State of Kansas, have invented a certain Compound called Bremen Roofing Composition, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of the invention of the said HAIGHT & GLADDING consists in mixing water-cement, solution of rubber, glycerine, and candle-tar in the following proportions, to wit: To thirty (30) gallons of candle-tar add five (5) gallons of solution of rubber; four (4) gallons of glycerine; twenty-five (25) pounds of Water-cement. Dissolve, and mix these ingredients together, stirring over a slow fire, not allowing the mixture to boil.
This composition is to be used for the purpose of coating metal or wooden roofs of all kinds, also for the saturation of felts. It is to be put on warm, and may be used with or Without the use of cloth, paper, felt, or gravel.
