INVENTO 5 Z. 65/5/ 09 DSTATE PATENT,OFFICE;
I Louis (e. JORDAN, J on oornms, wnsnineron;
Application filed. July 18,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS G. JonnAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gopalis, in the county of Grays Harbor and State of Washington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Advertising Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates generally to an advertising apparatus, comprehending particularly a changeable exhibitorhaving installed therein a series of movable belts or aprons on each of which appears aseries of unit images, whereby one of the images on each belt, when exhibited or displayed through the visible opening of the casing, will collectively roduce a complete picture.
One of the salient features of the present invention contemplates" the provision of novel means for imparting to each of the belts or aprons an intermittent movement,
causing a different displayon the respective series of unit images through the display opening of the casing to produce different complete pictures.
With the above and other objectsin view, the invention consists in the novel features, details of construction and combination of parts which will hereinafter be more fully set forth, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the. appended claims.
The figure is a perspective view of. an apparatus embodying my invention. 7 7 Referring more particularly to the accom-' panying drawing, in which like characters of reference refer to corresponding parts in the several views, a common drive shaft 17 is 'ournaled in spaced standards18.
ournaled in the standards 18 at a point above the driven shaft is a driveshaft 19 carrying'a pulley 20 over which is trained the drive belt 21 leading from the motor 22. On one end of the driveshaft 19 is apinion 23 meshing with the toothed periphery 24 of a yieldably supported disk 25. The disk 25 is mounted on the driven shaft 17 for a slightly horizontal sliding movement, having connected to its axis one of the end convolutes of a coil spring 27, as denoted by the character 26, and to the opposite end convolute 28 of the spring is a flexible arm 29 keyed on the stub shaft 30 of the lowermost gear 31. Carried by the toothed disk 25 and projecting laterally therefrom is a trip 32, which, owing to the provision of the n lavnn'rrsme Davies; 5 e i Specification of Letters fiatentf Q ber to release, the said arm therefrom.

into contact alternately with the spaced up Patented Jan. 3, 1922;
right flexible-posts 33 upon the completion of a half revolution of'the disk 25, which in turn will flex the post 33 and cause the free end of the arm 29 to be released from shoulder34 of the post.
In briefly describing the operation of the i I V invention, andassuming theparts constituting the apparatus are properlyinstalled for use, the motor 22 is started, whichin turn .will operate the pulley 20 and impart move- ,ment to the disk 25 by. the pinion 23 meshing 25, will again cause the tensioning of the engagement with the horizontal abutting coil spring 26, as at this point the said spring Y is untensioned by the throwing of the arm 29 into contact with the opposite post.
From the foregoing description, taken in connectionwith the accompanying drawin s,
the advantages of construction and t e method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention relates, and while I have described the principles of operation of the invention, together with the device which I now consider tobe the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that thedevice shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made when desired as are,
within the scope of the appended claims. What is claimed as new, is 1., Means for operating achangeable hib-iter embodyin a; drive gear, a drive shaft,'means for civingsaidshaft, an arm,
a member havinga shoulder with whichthe armengages for holding the latter against movement,resilient means operatively connecting the drive gear and said drive shaft, means, for flexing said member to release the arm therefrom.
2. Means for intermittently operating a changeable exhibiter" embodying a driven shaft, a stub shaft, aspring interposed between said ;former and latter mentioned shafts, an arm carried by the stub shaft, a member having a shoulder with which the arm engages for holding the latter against movement, and means for flexing said mem- 3.. Means for'imparting an intermittent against movement, a disk mounted on the movement to a changeable exhibiter comdriven shaft and provided with a trip risinga driven shaft, a stub shaft, aspring adapted to engage with said member for 10 rmterposed between said former and latter flexing 'thelatter'to cause the release ofthe 5 mentioned shafts, an arm carried by the-stub arm therefrom. a
shaft, a member having a shoulder with In testimony whereof I affix my signature. which the arm engages for holding the latter a LOUIS G. JORDAN.
