Description

APPLICATION FILED JULY 14, I919.
G. E. MORRIS. AUTOMATIC FILTER.
21 if Iii,
Patented Dec. 27, 1921.
' gayzjwzm AUTOMATIC FILTER.
Application filed July 14,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that GEORGE E. MORRIS, a citizen of the United States of America, re siding at Hackensack, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, has invented new and useful Improvements in Automatic Filters, of which the following is a specification. r
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and relatively inexpensive apparatus for use in connection with the retail drug business for the filtration of such preparations as citrate of magnesia, beef, iron and wine tonics and the like, whereby having adjusted the elements to suit characters of the preparation to be filtered the process may be carried on without the immediate attention of the operator and at the same time without risk of deterioration of the product incident to the employment of means heretofore in common use and to this end the invention consists in a construction, combination and relation of parts hereinafter specifically set forth, it being under stood that changes in form and proportion, adapting the same for products handled in varying volumes may be resorted to wlthin the scope of the claim without departing from the principles involved.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side view of the apparatus.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on a plane indicated by the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of the supporting frame on the plane indicated by the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Essentially the apparatus embodies a retort 10 provided with an inlet or filling opening 11 fitted with a stopper l2 preferably having a rubber or similar air excluding gasket 13 said retort havlng at ts lower end a valved drip outlet 14 emptying lnto a funnel 15 whose discharge end is interior of a receptacle 16 for the filtrate. Said retort and filtrate receptacle are mounted and held in the proper relative positions by a frame consisting of the uprights 17 connected transversely by the supporting bars partly in section Specification of Letters Patent. Pate t d Dec. 2'7, 1921.
1919. Serial No. 310,544.
18 to form a seat or rest for the filtrate receptacle and having a ring 19 to embrace and maintain the retort in proper relation thereto. By means of the valve 20 the rapidity of discharge from the retort into the funnel may be regulated to suit the char-' Fries. 1
used in pharmaceutical and chemical labora tories, the funnel being arranged and oper atively held in a seat 21 formed in a removable cover 22 constituting the top of the filtrate receptacle. This top or {cover is preferably depressed or cupped as shown at 23 so that overflow from the funnel will be received thereby and prevent it from passing beyond the elements of the filtrate receptacle, and in communication with the seat 21 provided for the funnel there are radial extensions or slots 24 constituting inlet passages by which liquid deposited upon the concaved surface of the lid or cover 22 find its way to the interior of the filtrate receptacle.
The filtrate may be withdrawn from the receptacle in any preferred manner, as by I means of a valve faucet or the equivalent thereof.
The invention having been. described,
what is claimed as new and useful is:
An apparatus for the purpose descrlbed lmving a retort provided with a regulable drip nozzle, a filtrate receptacle disposed beneath the retort and having a removable lid or cover depressed to form a concaved surface and provided with a central seat and communicating extensions forming inlet openings in communication with the interior of said receptacle, and a funnel for a filtering material mounted in said seat in position to receive the drip from said nozzle.
In testimony whereof he affixes his slgnature.
GEORGE ERNEST MORRIS.
