the toilet and for clothing a child. A further object is to produce a device of this character having doors which may be opened to such a position as to shield the child from drafts or View while being bathed and dressed. A still further object is to produce a device of this character having a bath tub which can be drawn forward out of the cabinet to a position where it shall be convenient for the attendant to bathe the child while sitting upon a chair and without having to bend over to any appreciable extent.
With these general ob ects in view the invention consists in certain novel and useful'features of construction and organization of parts as hereinafter described and claimed; and in order that it may be fully understood reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1, is a 1perspective view of a cabinet embodying t e invention.
Fig. 2, is a front elevation of the cabinet in open position and with the doors or screens opened and adjusted to form a screen.
Fig. 3, is a vertical section of the cabinet.
Fig. 4, is a horizontal section of the same taken on the line IV-IV of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5, is a detail perspective View.
In the said drawings, 1 indicates a rectangular cabinet inclosed at the back and sides and open at the front so as to provide a chamber 2 extending from the bottom 3 to the undermost of a series of slide drawers 4, it being noted that in the proportion shown there are three drawers of which the undermost is shorter so as to be overhung at its front end by the next drawer above,
A similar but narrower door 8, so as to be capable of standing inward of door 6 and between the side walls of the cabinet, is hinged as at 9 to the front edge of the right hand side wall, said doors being spaced apart by the hinges 9 for the accommodation between them of the folding sections 10 and 11 hinged to the lower and upper edges of the door 6 and adapted to be folded upward and downward respectivelyv against the inner side of said door, a certain accessory hereinafter mentioned being also accommodated between said doors. The door 8 is likewise provided with foldable sections 11 and 12 hinged to its upper and lower edges, and to also accommodate said sections when folded against the inner face of door 8, the undermost drawer is made shorter than the overhanging drawer as hereinbefore stated. By this arrangement it will be apparent that the cabinet when folded will present no unusual or peculiar features of construction to disclose its character, and which will be as dust tight as any other cabinet or the like.
It is necessary however, that in order to permit of the hinge action of the doors, that the foldable members or sections thereof shall be slightly narrower than the body portions or-doors proper, this being obvious when the necessity for one of thedoors and the foldable sections for both must fit between the side walls of the cabinet is borne 1 1n mind.
One or both of the doors may be utilized as a support for a soiled clothes receptacle and other accessories, and to illustrate this idea, a. soiled linen bag 13,- is shown as arranged at the inner side of door 8 in the horlzontal plane of the chamber of the cabinet between the bottom thereof and the undermost drawer. In the'construction-.,shown the said bag 13 is detachably hooked as at 14 to the horizontal arms 15 of a pair of angle brackets pivoted as at 16 to lugs secured to the door in any suitable manner.
sition flatly against the face of the door so as to occupy a spaceof no greater width than the door members 11 and 12 when folded, the bag of course collapsing to accommodate this movement. However as the linen bag, is suspended at the inner s1de of door 8, which door closes first, the chamber 2 will accommodate the bag even when incapable of collapsing materially by reason of bein packed with linen. The chamber 2 also orms a convenient receptacle for a character, the same being mounted on a swing arm which is curved so that while supported within the chamber, the lamp may be swung to a point exterior thereto and to one side thereof, the swinging bracket 18, being also provided with a support 19 and a pan 20 wherein water may be bolled 1f necessary.
Slidably mounted in guide cleats 21 or otherwise slidably supported is a rest and dressing shelf or table 22, spaced above the bottom and equipped at its under side and front corners with a ,pair of pivoted or foldable legs 23, which support the front end of the shelf or table when the same is drawn forward to afford a support for the child during the dressing or undressing operation, the said legs when swung back, being adapted to enter the space between the shelf or table and the bottom of the cabinet and be entirely out of the way and out of view when the doors are closed. Slidable receptacles 24 and 25 for soap and a sponge are also mounted on the shelf or table so as to 35 be conveniently accessible during the bathing operation, and the shelf or tablecarries a slidable drawer 25 for toilet articles. Se-
cured to the side walls of the cabinet within neled slide bars 27 from the front ends of which pivotally depend braces or le s 28 to rest upon the shelf or table when t e same is extended and thus support a'bath tub 29 suspended in a ring 30 provided with eyes 31 engaging suspension ooks 32 depending from the front ends of the slide bars 27 By this arrangement the bath tub may be supported above the front end of the shelf or table and be susceptible of being tilted slightly if necessary for the convenience of the attendant, and it is also obvious that it can be readily lifted out of the ring when it is to be emptied. Preferably it will be lifted with the ring off the hooks 32, so that the eyes 31 maybeutilized as handles for convenience in carrying the tub. The tub can be shoved into the cabinet independent of the shelf or table when not needed, and be entirely out of the way, and the table can be drawn forward to operative ..position without affecting the tub.
In the space between the bottom of the cabinet and the slidable shelf or table is a pair of channeled guides 33 secured to the ,spiritlamp 17 or the like of any suitable chamber 2is apair of channeled track bars 26 and slidably mounted'therein are chan-w side walls anl slidingly engaged by angle bars 34 pivotally connected at 35 to the ends of a shield 36, the same being adapted to rest upon the bottom of the cabinet when not in operative position, and to be drawn out and permitted to swing down to the floor when the cabinet is to be used for bathing a child and thus cut off draft from the space below the cabinet, the lower sections of the doors when the latter are open to form screens, cooperatin with the shield 36 to the end mentione If desired the upper sections of the door can likewise be swun to vertical position to afford more comp ete protection than if left in folded position. The doors are provided with the upper foldable sections primarily for convenience of access to the uppermost drawers in the cabinet, and for appearance sake.
The cabinet is mounted upon casters 37 for convenience in moving it from one point or room to another, and may be equipped with one or more towel racks R, and other accessories as may be required. It will also be understood that suitable means may be provided for holding-the foldable sections of the door or screens in folded or opened position, but as any approved device, such as turn buttons or spring catches, may be employed, it has not been deemed necessar to illustrate them, and the same is true wit regard to the provisions of means for looking the outer door 6 of the cabinet, in closed position.
The adjustments or manipulations of the various parts have been described in detail, and no general recapitulation thereof is thought necessary or desirable, and while the preferred embodiment of the invention has been shown and described, it is obvious that it may be modified in minor" particulars without departing from the principle of construction involved or sacrificin any of the advantages of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A baby toilet cabinet having a front opening, and a dressing table adjustable to an operative position forward of the cabinet, means to support the front end of the table when in operative position, and a pair of doors normally overlapping and closing the opening of the cabinet, and provided at their lower ends with foldable extensions for extending down to the floor when the doors are opened; said cabinet having an adjustable shield for extending from the said opening to the floor and cooperating with said door extensions in cutting off draft along the floor and adjacent the cabinet.
2. A baby toilet cabinet having a front opening, and a dressing table adjustable to an operative position forward of the cabinets, means to support the front end of the table when in operative position, a air of doors normally overlapping and closing the opening of the cabinet, and provided at their lower ends with foldable extensions for extending down to the floor when the doors are opened, and a shield having a slidable and hinged connection and adapted to lie within said opening or to depend from the cabinet at the lower end of said opening between the extensions of said doors when the same are open and the extensions are unfolded.
A baby toilet cabinet having a front opening, a dressing table adjustable to operative position forward of the cabinet, means to support the front end of the table when in operative position,.bars mounted on the cabinet to slide into and out of the said front opening thereof, means to support the front end of said bars when projected from the cabinet, and a tub carried by said bars at the front end thereof.
4. A baby toilet cabinet having a front opening, a dressin table adjustable to operative position flhrward of the cabinet, means to support the front end of the table when in operative position, guidewayssecured to opposite side walls of and within the cabinet, slide bars engaging said guideways, folding legs carried by said slide bars at the front ends thereof, a band detachabl supported from said'slide bars, and a tu carried by said band.
In testimony whereof I afiix my si nature.
