MOVABLE PARTITION FOR STOCK-CARS.
1 3%),908. Specification of Application filed September To all whom it may concern Be. it known that I, VnRNo'N A. VASSAU, citizen of the United States, residing at Willow City, in the county of Bottineau and State'of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Movable Partitions for Stock-Cars, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a movable partition for stock cars.
The rincipal object of the invention is to provide a movable partition for stock cars as outlined above so that a car may be divided into two or more compartments to provide for different kinds of stock to be shipped. In shipping stock the railroads require that the different kinds must be separated it shipped in the same car. By using the partition referred to the stock can be properly separated thus saving a great deal of space, particularly when there is not a' full car of any one kind of stock. 7
Various other objects and advantages of my invention will become apparent during the continuance of the following description.
In the drawings:
Figurel is a View in cross section of a stock car body, my invention being shown in elevation and in operative relation therewith. i

which have their ends positioned in the upper and lower braces 14 and which extend through the intermediate brace as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2. This construction provides a strong and durable partition.
With a view to suspending the partition within the car I first provide horizontal carrying rails 16 which. extend longitudinally along the roof of the car body and, which may be supported by the transverse.
I also provide an'improved hinge to suspend the partition proper from the rail '16 and at the same time allowthe partition tov be swung So as to permit the stock to pass underneath, it such is requlre'd. Thishinge consists of a main memberl'? and 'a rail engaging member 18 the rail engaging member having a slot 19 for the reception of the ball and web of the rail. The two hinge sections are pivotally. connected as shown at 20. Two of the improved hinges are preferably used, one being positioned at each of the upper and outer endsof the partition and engaged with the respective carrying This arrangement provides means tudina'lly within the car body or swung upon the hinge pivot so as to permit the stock to pass underneath.
partition in a fixed position within the car body. In carrying this into effect I provide the carrying members 13 with retaining chains 21 of suitable length and eye bolts 22 to receive the normally free end of. the

for retaining the chains and the retaining pins 23' in the. manner hereinafter described. When it'is desired to secure the, partition ina stationary position the chains 21 are passed around the vertical braces 11 and the end links pass over the head of the respective eye bolts 22. The retaining pins 23 are then inserted in the head of the eye bolts thus forming a secure connection between the partition and the,
side wall of the car body.
