7 Be it known that I, LOUIS FRIEDMAN, a citizen of the. United States, residing 'at New York city, borough of Manhattan, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Trousers and Pants, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in trousers and pants and is, more particularly, directed to an improved manner of making the pants, whereby the seat and waistline of the trousers may be let out to properly fit the garment to the wearer.

It has long been the practice to make trousers in such manner that the. seat seam may be let out, and while most of the prior pants will permit of making the alterations usually required their constructions are such that the interior of the trousers, particularly at the waistline portion thereof are unpleasing and unpleasant in appearance. In the most common way of. forming the back of the trousers, the letting out of the seat produces a gap in the waistband which is unsightly in appearance and detracts from the strength of the trousers.

Another proposed trouser construction is that described and claimed in Patent No. 1,126,379, granted to Abraham A. Brown, Jan. 26th, 1915. The construction of thispatent is such as to enable the trousers to be readily remodeled, but, in such trousers material from the waistband, give'the trousers a marked unfinished and untidy appearance. The waistband is not smooth and uninterrupted at the back of the trousers since the flaps in question overlie the same and the interior waistband portions at the back of the trousers do not have the finished workmanlike appearance desirable in trousers of the better class.

mind,the object of this invention is to provide pants and trouser construction which. will enable the letting out of the seat and waistband. of a garment, but which will present a finished workmanlike appearance, all the free edges of material being covered by the waistband at the back of the trousers which waistband extends in asubstantially smooth and uninterrupted manner throughout this region. vention, flaps are not visible at the waistband portion, although the trousers may be readily let out if desired in a convenient, more expeditious and simple manner than heretofore possible.

Features of the invention, other than those specified, will be apparent from the hereinafter detailed description and claims, when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

The accompanying drawings illustrate dliferent practical embodiments of the invention, but the constructions therein shown are to be understood as illustrative only, and not as defining the limits of the invention.

Figure 1 shows a pair of pants embodymg the present invention.

Figs. 2, 3 and 4 are detail, fragmental perspectives showing different steps in the manufacture of the pants; and,

Figs. 5 and 6 are sections on the lines 5-5 and 6-6 of Fig. 4, respectively.

In making a pair of trousers in accordance with this invention, the leg sections A and B are made up in the usual way and are provided withwaistband portions C and D, respectively, which, prior to the assembling of the leg sections are sewed to said leg sections by one or more lines of stitches E and F. This having been accomplished the leg sections are united by positioning -will be noted that the line of stitching G and its extension G are positioned at some little distance from the back free edges of the leg sections as clearly shown in Fig. 2, thereby leaving a free extension a on the section A,

The uniting of the leg sections by the stitching G is accomplished while the trousers are laid out fiat as shown in Fig. 2', and after this step in the manufacture has been completed, the extensions a, 0, b and d are folded back on the parts of which they are extensions after the manner shown in Fig. 3, and thereafter the waistband sec tions C and D are folded down interiorly of the trousers into the position shown in Fig. 4. This having been accomplished,a belt strap I is positioned exteriorly of the trousers and along the seam formed by the stitching G and this belt strap is now sewed onby stitching i and 11, the. latter stitching may, if desired, be in the form of a bar tack. If desired, a hanger loop J, may be attached by the stitches i as clearly shown. Either before, after or while putting on the belt strap 1, the waistband portions C and D are preferably sewed down .tothe leg sections-by lines of stitching 7c and Z, but these lines of stitching preferably extend only .to the free edges of the extensions and do not sew the obviated.

Pants ortrouser construction embodying leg sections, a waistband section sewed along the upper edge of each 'legsection, a 7 seat seam for uniting the legs'ections at the back of the trousers at a distance from the edges thereof to form extensions, said seat seam extending to the upper edge of the leg sections without uniting the waistband sections and being extended upwardly beyond the upper edge of the leg sections to unite the waistband sections at a distance from their ends to form extensions, the extensions of the leg sections and waistband sections being thereafter folded back on the sections of which they form parts and the waistband sections thereafter folded down interiorly of the trousers to form an interior waistband therefor, which waistband overlies the extensions of its respective sections, as well as the upper portions of the extensions of the leg sections.

6. Pants or trouser construction embodying leg sections, a waistband section sewed along the upper edge of each legsection, a seat seam for uniting the leg sections at the back of the trousers at a distance from the edges thereof to form extensions, said seat seam extending from the crotch of the trouser substantially to the upper edge of the leg sections of the seat, same being continued beyond the upper edge of the leg sections to form extensions, the extensions of the leg sections and waistband sections being thereafter folded back on the sections of which they form parts and the waistband sections thereafter folded down interiorly of the trousers to form an interior waistband therefor, which waistband overlies the extensions of its respective sections, as well as the upper portions of the extensions of the leg sections, a belt loop positioned on the exterior of the trousers in substantially the medial line of the back thereof and stitches passing through the belt loop and simultaneously tacking down the waistband of the trousers in the medial line of the back thereof.
