ROLLED METAL SECTION. APPLICATION HLED NOV. 25,1919- Patented Oct. 4, 1921.

V ROLLED METAL SECTION.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. Oct. 4', 1921.
Application filed November 25, 1819. Serial No. 340,576.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALVIN L. Ronnnrs, a citizen of the-United States, and a resident of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelthe length of the same and designed to stiflen the section, so that when two or more sections are united to form a hollow column or reinforcement, the hollow columns so formed will be of practically equal strength in all directions, so as to withstand any bending stress that may be applied.
The accompanying drawing is a View in transverse section of a column adapted as a reinforce for a concrete column, one half being shown in full lines and the other half in dotted lines.
In the construction shown, each section5 is semi-cylindrical in shape, with integral stiffening ribs 6 spaced equally around the outer circumference of the section, the said ribs extending longitudinally throughout the length of the side. Each section is provided at its free edge with a rib or flange 6 of less thickness than the intermediate ribs, and having flat outer faces so that when two sections are united to form a hollow column as shown, the end ribs or flanges on the two sections will come together and bear against each other throughout their entire areas. Each e'nd flange is provided with rivet holes for the passage of the rivets 7 which secure the two semi-cylindrical sections together thus forming a cylinder having equally spaced external longitudinal ribs located on radial lines-from the center of the section. A. column thus formed is symmetrical and of practically equal strength in all directions and is adapted to withstand any bending stress which may be applied.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
A rolled column section concave on one face and convex on the other, and provided on its convex face with integral longitudinal equally spaced stiffening ribs which are deep in proportion to their width all of which are of approximately the same size and also provided at each ofits edges with a side flange of less thickness than the intermediate ribs and having flat outer faces to engage similar faces on its companion section to which it is riveted.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
