Specification of Letters Patent.
JAMES C. COFFEE, OF WEBB CITY, MISSOURI.
Application filedhugust 20, 1920. Serial no. 404,771.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES C. COFFEE, a
I citizen. of the United States, residing at Webb City, in the county of Jasper and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in an Automatic Oiler; and I do hereby declare the followin to be a full, clear, and exact description 0 the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains tomake and use the same.
The object of the invention is to provide automatic means for supplying lubricating material to the air lines used for example in connection with pneumatic tools such as rock drills, hammers, riveting machines, cutters and the like, so that. the oil or lubricating agent may be carried by the air to the working parts of the tool or machine and may be fed thereto with regular1ty and in suitable proportions to effect the desired results without flooding orwaste of the material; and with these objects in view the invention consists in the construction and com- ,bination of parts ofwhich a preferred embodiment is shown in the drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a side view of an oiler embodying the invention.
i Fig- 2 is a the same. The .oiler. consists essentially of a casing 10 of oval or longitudinally elliptical form as indicated, having an axial passage 11 separated from the interior of the casingby an inner wall 12 between-which and the. outer-wall 11 is a reservoir14 for theoil or like lubricant, the terminals of said passages being enlarged and threaded for efiectin the coupling therewith of the adjacent ex remity of pipe sections 15 forming part of the air line which supplies'the machine or tool with airunder pressure. In the construction illustrated the coupling is connected by means of bushings 16 which are threaded into the enlarged terminals of the passage 11 through which the air passes in longitudinal: sectional view of traversing the airline.
At its inlet end the wall of the passage Patented Aug.- 30, 1921.
11 is provided with a vent 17, and near the outlet end of the device there is arranged a feed opening or orifice 18 through which the oil is adapted to pass from the reservoir -or chamber 14 to be carried by the air to the; machine or tool. The vent 17 serves to permit the entrance of air into the chamber 14 to supply-the place occupied by the oil discharged through the outlet 18 and also to permit of exposing the contents of said chamber or reservoir to the air pressure so as to induce a flow of lubricant through the outlet 18.
be supplied through an opening 19 fitted with a screw plug 20 which is seated upon a suitable gasket 20'.
- It will be obvious that. in operation the oil will be fed slowly but continuously from the chamber or reservoir 14 to the air in its passage through the device, to the end that the lubricant is carried directly to the machine or tool to keep the. parts thereof in proper working condition.
The chamber or reservoir 14 is adapted to Having thus described the invention, what I claim is 2 An automatic oiler comprising a hollow lubricant icontaining casing having oppositely arranged ports, a tubular wall arranged in the casing to form a passage and having its ends flared and internally screw threaded and formed integrally with the casing about said ports, said walladjacent one end having a vent opening, a nozzle carried by said wall adjacent its other end and having one end disposed in the passage and its other end in communication with the interior of the casing, and bushings threaded in the ends of the wall and having pipe sections of an air line threaded therein.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two'witnesses.
