Application filed March a, 1920. Serial no. 365168.
1'0 on whom it may concern:
Be it known that I Lorna B. Hinvnt, a. citizen of the Uni States, resi at Stockton, in the county of San Joaquin, tabe of California, have invented certain new: and useful 1m rovements in Driving-Arches for Wheel-F 'es' and I do declare the followin to he a full clear, and exact description 0 the same, re erence being had to the accompanying drawiicfs and to the characters of reference mark thereon, which form a. port of this application.
This invention relates to improvements in a. means between a demountcble rim and the ed rimof the wheel, the principal to provide a means which will successfully it of the use of demounteble rim with k wheels.
This driving lug is particularly adapted to beusedwithefixedrimofthet shown in m co-pending u plicetion or patent filed rch s, 1920, eriul No. 364,162, and
with a demountcble rim of the type shown in my 00- ending application for sectional rim filed arch 25th, 1919, Serial No. 284,983.
Another object is to so construct and positionthis driving arch that it me, be used in use to bind the parts of m sectional rim together, without the need 0 addin other parts to the rim, and thus permitting his bolt or lug to serve a double urpose.
A fu or object of the invention is to roduce a simple and inexpensive device, on yet onewhich will be exceedin ly effective for the urpoees for which it is esigned T ese objects I accomplish such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by a, perusal of the following specification and claims.
In the drawings similar characters of ref erence indicate corresponding parts in the i u m i m m 1 t di 1 1 1s a. on ry ongi u no section 0'! a fixed m r and demountuble rim, showin the driving arch installed.
Fi is a. cross section on a line 2-2 of characters of reference on the drawings, the
y nieans of numeral 1 denotes the fixed rim, which n" preferablya channel shaped, having unnular, sides or seat 4 ndapteclto receive the inner edge of e flange 5 depending from the rim 6.
T is rim is formed ofa. pluralit of so mental parts, as fully set forth in t e app cation hereiubefore mentioned, adjacent the end of one of which parts 6 is a radially positioned stud bolt 7, projecting inwardly. A plate 8 passes over the stud and overlaps Patented Aug. 30, 192,111
, nges 2 and 3, the inner one '2- of which has an internal peripheral groove or-c.
the end of the rim-segment 6" which abuts.
against the segment 6'.
A. sleeve-nut 9 screws over the stud and bears against the plate 8.
At any suitable point in the fixed rim 1 between the flanges thereof is fixed an arch she. d member 10, extendin circumferential y of said fixed rim and with an orifice 11 to receive the inner end of the sleeve member 9 therein.
ing provided This arch is so proportioned and she. ed V relative to the position of the sleeve nut, at the metal thereof will hear against said sleeve as close to the rim as possible, so as to reduce the tendency of the stud to bend under u. driving strain.
A locking ring '12is rcmovubly fixed to the outer flange 3, and is adapted to receive the outer rim-flange 13.
Thus it will be seen that rdless of the tightness of the locking ring, he rim cannot turn relative to the fixed rim.
In order to remove the rim, the looking rin 12 is first removed, and the rim then pul ed outwardly at at point opposite to the arch 10. This clears the rim from contact with the fixed rim at that point, and it may then be 'inoved radially so that the sleeve 9 will clear the arch 10.
Fronrthe foicgoing descriptionit will be readily seen that I have roduced such a. device as substantially ful Is the object of the invention as set forth herein.
While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention, as defined by the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I olaim'as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:-
1. In combination with a sectional rim having a. stud on one end of a section and a nut on the stud arranged in connection with a plalte to lock 'adjacent ends of the sections 5 against radial movement, a. sleeve extension formed with the-"nut, the fixed rim ofthe wheel being provided with an orificed memher to receive the said extension.
2. In combination witha. demountable rim,
10 a radial stud thereon, a sleeve threaded onto the stud, and a driving arch carried by the 7 fixed rim of the wheel end provided withnn orifice into which the sleeve .p ojccte' 8. In combination with aeectional rim, a stud on one end of a eectiomande-nuton the 15 stud arranged in connection witheplete to lock adjacent ends of the eections against radial movement, the fixed of the'wheel beinqlprovided with an orifice to receive the nutterein. 20
In testimony whereof 'I aflix my si tute.
