To all whom t may concer/n Be it known that I, FRED S. CARR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Newton, in the county of Middlesex, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Fasteners, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like characters on the drawings representing like parts.
This invention pertains to separable fasteners. The fasteners which I havey elected to show in the present application for illustrative purposes is a modification of the fastener shown in my copending application Serial No. 351,776 filed January 16, 1920, and is intended to provide a spring of somewhat greater resiliency than that shown in said copending application.
In the drawings, wherein I have shown one illustrative embodiment of a preferred construction constituting one form of my A invention Figure 1 is a view of two pieces of fabric held together by a fastener;

Fig. 4 shows a plurality of fasteners connecting two pieces of fabric.
Referring to the drawings, I have shown a stud 5 having a head and a neck coperating with a socket including a casing plate 6, containing a spring 7, whichmay be of .the well known Kohinoor type. The spring 7 provides terminal portions 8, 9 passing at each side of a stud-receiving aperture 10 in the socket plate and terminating under a lip 11 died inwardly from the spring-retaining rim of the socket casing.A I preferably provide means for spacing the terminal portions of the spring apart, and I may conveniently do so by striking from the lip 11 a depending lip 12 betweenv the ends of the I may, if desired, provide additional means for holding'down those portions of the spring adjacent the stud-receiving aperture in the socket in any suitable way, but I prefer to strike up portions 13, 14 of the socket casing beneath which the secondary spring portions 15, 16 are received, preferably permitting considerable to-and-fro movement of vsaid spring portions so that the entire spring action will not come from the bends 17, 18 vbut may start from the bends 19 and 20.
By the before described means of securing the spring in the casing without a dome,
as is usually provided in sockets containing springs of the Kohinoor type, I have eliminated those difficulties which attend the manufacture of sockets having domes slotted for the entrance of the springs, and at the same time I have provided a type of socket well`adapted for use in connection with a notched stud-receiving aperture, the advantages of which are fully described in my pending application, Serial No. 307,111,1Ciled June 27, 1919, and in my copending application filed' herewith, Serial No. 351,77 6, filed January 16, 1920. It will be understood that the use of the spring supports 13, 111 is optional, and that these .may be omitted orY departing from the scope of my invention,-
which is best defined in the following claims. Claims:
comprising, in combination, a casing having a continuous lip flanged inwardly to retain a spring, said lip'being extended at one side to overlie the ends of the spring.
2. A socket for stud and socket fasteners comprising, in combination, a casing having a continuous lip flanged inwardly to retain a spring, said lip being extended at one side to Overlie the ends of the spring, and having at the extended side a ldepending portion spacing the ends of the spring.
3. A socket for stud and socket fasteners comprising, in combination, a casing having a continuous lianged-over rim, al spring of the Kohinoor type within said casing, said casing being domeless and providing lmeans operatively supporting the. stud-en- 85 A 1.
