To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED N. MARSHALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dallas, in the county of Dallas and State 5 of Texas, have invented a new and useful Street-Directory, of which the following is a specification.
rlhe object of my invention is to provide a novel street directory and business guide, in book form, whereby the location of business houses, streets and street numbers may be determined with ease and in av fraction of the time heretofore required.
I attain the objects of my invention by diagrams and indexes arranged as shown in the accompanying specimen pages illustrated in the drawings, in Which- Figure 1 is a plan view of one of the diagramniatically arranged pages of the directory for locating the relative position oi business firms in given blocks (page 415 or the directory) Fig. 2 is a plan view of one of the pagesofthe alphabetical index (page 3) Fig. 3 is a plan view of one of the index pages of the alphabetical streetv index (Page 9M F ig. 4 is a planview of one of the index pages of the combined alphabetical and numerical street and block index (page 625) and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the invention illustrating its book vform.
My street directory consists in a compilation into book form of the business section of the city, block by block, asillustrated in the specimen page shown in Fig. l, one page y\representing one block and diagrammatically outlining the position of the various 40 business houses in that block by suitable diagrams designated A, giving their street number, name, or business signand phone address, the aforesaid printed data being designated B, and the respective streets designated G, whereby the respective locations of the diiierent business houses are disclosed.
It is further my object to arrange the pages in alphabetical order according to the names of the streets, that is the particular street I being the index for that'particular page.
By such an arrangement a stranger is enabled to quickly locate the exact position of any desired business house. A separate index designated C or' persons and firms within the bounds of the businessdistrict covered by the directory and arranged a1phabeti. cally, andan alphabetical street index designated D, Fig. 3, and a combined street and block index E, Fig. 4l, giving the streets and blocks, thus providing a convenient cross index are also provided.
I provide on the Various index pages suitable advertising spaces F, as indicated in the drawings, and on, the diagram pages appropriate street and block headings H.
What l claim is:
1. A street directory consisting in a compilation in book form of pages diagrammatically outlining the position of the various business houses located within the area covered by such pages, each page representing one block, the pages being arranged yin alphabetical order by streets, the diagram of each business house in the various pages disclosing the nature of the business, street number, and phone number, in combination with a separate alphabetical index of persons and firms within the bounds-of the district covered by thel directory and giving the street addresses, whereby a convenient cross index is provided.
2. A street directory, consisting in a compilation in book form of a series of pages numerically arranged according to blocks' and diagrammatically outlining the position of the various business houses in the blocks located within the area covered by such pages, each page representing a like area, as indicated by blocks, the pages being arranged in alphabetical order by streets, the diagram of -each business house in the various pages disclosing the nature ofthe business and street number, in combination with a separate alphabetical index of persons and firms covered by the directory, and a separate street index, and a separate combined street and block index, whereby cross reference means for quickly locating 'the exact position of streets and business houses is provided, substantially as shown.
