To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, AXEL ,BREMBERG and ALEXANDER BANKS, of Parkhead Forge RollingMills and Steel Works,.in the city and county of Glasgow, v ."Scotland, engineers, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Connectionwith Recoil Apparatus for Ordnance, of which the following is the specification.
The invention relates to thattype of recoil apparatus for ordnance in whichv there is a hydraulic buffer and an air recuperator; that is to say, in which the force of. recoil is-applied to a hydraulic piston operating in a cylinder from which cylinder liquid.

As it is only safe to-fire the gun when a sufliclent pressure ex sts in the a1r reservoir, and'as this air pressure sets up an identical pressure in the liquid until the leakage has passed a certain safe limit, a pressure gage or indicator is provided in the filling plug G? itself; This plug indicator which is so placed that'it is under the operators-eye and shows at a glance whether theguncan be fired or not,-consistsof a pressure gage of that well-known form comprising a tubel-I closed at one end, ope-net the other and curved in annular form. The closed free end of this tube H is as usual connected by multiplying gearing H with a pointer H visible through a glazed aperture H in the top of the ping G and reading upon anindex mark The aperture H is of but small angular width, and there may be arranged behind the pointer a backing of luminous material, or alternatively the pointer may be coated with luminous material. r V
Since'at the moment of recoilthe pressure gage is subjected to very intense pressure, it
is necessary that its tube should be protected from undue distortion or fracture due thereto. For this reason, the gage tube'is' encircled by a seating G in the plug'of such dimensions that when the tube has'expanded to pressure slightly above that indicative its outer periphery comes to rest againsttheseating, and further and possibly damaging distortion is prevented thereby.
