ELECTRIC-LIGHTIN G FIXTURE.
Application filed March 1, 1920. Serial No.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER W. SPancHnR, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in. Elec trio-Lighting Fixtures; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
his invention pertains to new and useful improvements in electric lighting fixtures, and relates particularly to an improved means for insulatingly mounting the canopy of such fixtures.
the extremity thereof. The primary of the present invention is to provide a lighting fixture somewhat similar to that depicted in this patent but, having an improved arran ment of parts whereby the current distri ution wires may be disposed through the side walls of the canopy.
Another object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed and efficient means for mounting a lighting fixture canopy upon a wall or ceiling in such a manner that the attaching .means will be thorou hly insulated.
ith these eneral objects in view, the
invention resid es in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more particularly described and claimed and shown in the drawing forming a part thereof, wherein- Figure 1 represents a part elevational and art sectional view of an electric lighting xture constructed in accordance with the invention. h
Fig. 2 is a detail transverse sectional view taken on the plane of the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
In the accompanying drawing I have illustrated a portlon of a ceiling or wall 1 as having a nipple 2 extended therefrom, the nipple being exteriorly screw threaded and adapted to form one portion of an attachin means for mounting a canopy 3 of suitable design. In the present instance this canopy 3 is provided on opposite sides with Specification of Letters Patent.

rings 4 by which suspending chains (not shown) may be attached thereto. The extremity of the canopy has an opening 5 receiving a block 6 which forms one element of a canopy attachingmeans.
This block 6 is preferably of indurated fiber or other insulating material and is shouldered at 7 and provided with a central bore 8. The inner portion of the block is counter-bored to receive one end of an insulating sleeve 9 through which and the bore 8 a suspending screw 10 is extended.
The head of said screw engages the outer block 6 and the inner screw threaded end is threaded into an aperture formed in one side of an attaching yoke 11.
e opposite side of the yoke 11 is provided 'th a screw threaded socket 12 adapted to receive the threaded end of the nipple 2, the
hown in Fig. 1. the yoke forms a ringlike member by which the yoke may the nipple 2, it that a suitable tool may be opening thereof.
Current distribution wires 13 extend from t e ceiling 1 within the canopy adapted to be extended through the side wall thereof. In the present instance the ring base 14 of one of the rings 4 is apertured to receive the wires 13. As a result of this arrangement the canopy 3 is effectively mounted and insulated from its attaching means although the distribution wires 13 extend through the side wall of said canopy rather than through the insulating block 6 of the structure illustrated in my patent above referred to.
Various changes may be made in the form and proportion and in the general association of the different parts of the fixture without departing from or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.
claim:
An electric lighting fixture comprising an attaching yoke composed entirely of metal and having a an internally threaded socket at the other end of the yoke for receiving the threaded end of a gas pipe, the bottom of the socket being adapted to close the end of the pipe, a with uninsulated openings in its sides for canopy disposed over the yoke and having the current distribution wires. 10 an opening in its extremity, an insulating In testimony that I claim the foregoing I block in said opening and having a bore, an have hereunto set my hand at ll'lilwaukee, 5 attaching screw disposed through the bore in the county of Milwaukee and State of of the block and thread- 1 in the aperture of lVisconsin. i the yoke, and an insulating sleeve surround- V 7 ing the screw, said canopy being provided PETER W. SPR-ECHER.
