. in which- 7 length to receive the sounding mechanism; the muzzle is bored or made hollow round for a short space toward the'breech, to represent the bore of a gun barrel.
The sounding mechanism consists of a flexible straight, flat spring clapper 6, attached at the rear end to a block 7, which is fixed longitudinally at the lower side of the breech chamber; this block having a slot 8, through its center at the front end,
the slot' serving as a passage-way for the actuating spur wheel 9:, and as the medium through which is produced the intermittent sibilatin sound between the firin detonations. The clapper an actuated y means of a spur wheel 9, mounted on axle 10, which is rotated by acrank 11, causing the clapper 6, to rapidly strike against its block 7, with a slight hissin sound between the strokes, in imitation o the fir of a ma chine 11;?
The axle 10, is supported by bearings fixed horizontally and centrally on either side of and near the front end of the breech chamher; the end of the axle 10, on the right hand side, extending through the wall of the chamber to receive a crank 11, of suitable length depending on the size of the toy. The periphery of the wheel 9, carries four or more arms or spurs 12, 12, 12, 12, the number and the length thereof depending on the size of the toy. The wheel 9, and axle 10, are so placed in relation to the clapper 6, as that when rotated, the end of each spur or arm 12, will pass through the slot 8, in the clapper block 7, and make contact with the forward or free end of the clapper 6, and raise it a sufficient height until disengaged by the rotary movement, and so timed that the clapper 6, will spring back to its seat, cause detonation, and be ready to repeat the process by each succeeding rotating arm or spur 12.
The toy is constructed of either wood or metal, or both in combination, and in various sizes-the parts thereof varying in dimension with the size of the toy.
I claim 1. A toy machine gun comprising a breech member, a barrel member projecting from the forward end thereof and comprising a' plurality of sections diminishing in diameter from breech to muzzle, the breech section having contained therein a sounding mechanism comprising a recessed block carrying a resilient clapper positioned over the recess thereof, a spur wheel projecting into said recess and engaging said clapper and actuated by a cranked handle member carried by the supporting shaft of said wheel on the exterior of the breech member.
2. A toy machine gun comprising a breech member rovided with a barrel composed of a plurality of suitably formed sections, a sounding mechanism mounted in the breech member and comprising a slotted block and a resilient clapper attached to said block above-the slot, a spur wheel engaging the clapper and operating in said slot, said spur wheel being mounted on a shaft extending transversely through the breech member, and means on said'shaft for operatingsaid spur wheel.
