Description

J. O. LINDEN.
MASSAGE DEVICE- APPLICATION FILED JUNE 24, 1920.

WITNESSES INVENTOR 521 0. L in den y I 43 7 B W A TTORNEYS UNHTED STATES PATENT enema.
MASSAGE DEVICE.
Application filed June 24,
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, Jon 0. LINDEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Albuquerque, in the county of Bernalillo and State of New Mexico, have invented a new and Improved Massage Device, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invent-ion relates to improvements in massage devices, an object of the invention being to provide a massage device which is hollow and which may contain a heating or cooling agent to give to the surfaces of the massage device the desired temperature.
A further object is to provide a massage device of improved shape which facilitates various massaging operations.
lvith these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a View partly in elevation and partly in longitudinal section illustrating my improved device.
Fig. 2 is a view in section on the hne 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. -3 is an end view of the devlce.
My improved massaging device comprises a hollow body 1 which is preferably composed of glass, although it may be of any other suitable material. The body 1 is of greater length than width and is made with a convexly rounded end 2 and a relatively fiat end 3 so that the device can be readily rested or positioned on the fiat end when not 1n use.
This fiat end 3 is made with a screw threaded opening 4 to receive a removable plug 5 screwed therein and a gasket 6 1s interposed between the inner end of the plug and an internal annular flan e in the body to insure a watertight joint. he plug 5 is recessed and provided with a finger receiving web 8 to facilitate its turning movement.
The body 1 is of general elliptical or oblong shape in transverse section providing a pair of relatively wide convex massaging surfaces 9 and 10, the former being corrugated and the latter being preferably smooth. The other opposite sides of the body Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June a, rear.
1920. Serial N0. 391,347.
1 are recessed or depressed forming finger receiving grooves or gripping portions 11 to facilitate the grasping of the device and the manipulation thereof in the massaging operation.
The body 1 is designed to contain liquid 12 or any other heating or cooling agent so thatthe temperature of the outer surfaces of the massaging device can be controlled or re ulated to exactly suit conditions.
11 the operation of the device, the corrugated side or surface 9 of the body 1 is used when it is desired to reach deeper into the underlying tissues and also for massaging the scalp, and the smooth side or surface 10 is utilized for massaging the skin where a smoother action is desired. The rounded end 2 of the body is used in massaging any portions of the face around the nose, eyes, neck, etc., and'the several surfaces of the massaging device are capable of contacting with all portions of the face and neck or other portions of the body and the desired action can be had by reason of the fact that the different forms of surfaces are provided.
Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from the invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A massage device, comprising a relatively wide and elongated hollow body having a flat end and a convexly curved end, and a removable plug normally closing the entrance to said hollow body, said hollow body having transverse corrugations on one of its relatively wide surfaces.
2. A massage device, comprising a relatively wide and elongated hollow body having a Hat end and a convexly curved end, said fiat end having an internally screw threaded opening therein, and a plug having screw threaded engagement in the open end of the body and adapted to confine a temperature regulating agent in the body, said plug, when in closed position, lying substantially flush with the flat end of the body.
3. A massage device, comprising a hollow body having a rounded end, a corrugated side, a smooth side and havin finger receiving de ressions in opposite si es, and a plug norma 1y closing one end of the body.
4. A massage device, com rising a hollow 5 body having a rounded en and a flat end and having convex sides, one of said sides being corrugated, said flat end having a eeaese screw threaded opening therein, an integral annular flange in the screw threaded open end, a plug normally fitting said screw 10 threaded end, and a gasket interposed between the plug and the flange.
