Referring now more particularly to the form disclosed by Figs. 1 to 3, inclusive, 2 designates the one-piece crown capable of being flattened out and which consists of flexible goods such as gingham, calico, etc. Said crown is cut out at each corner as indicated at 4 to form marginal flanges 6.

8 designates the one-piece brim capable'of being flattened out and which consists, preferably, of some stiff fabric having sufiicient body to insure the preservation of the Shape of the complete bonnet. Said brim 8 has a front margin 10, side margins, 12 and rear margins 14 with an intervening opening 16. The brim 8 is provided adjacent to the rear margins 14 with suitable fastening devices, such for instance, as buttons 18 and sockets 20 whereby said rear margins 14 may be fastened together at the back ofthe bonnet.

The brim 8 is provided on itsouter surface with a band 22, the ends of which terminate adjacent to the rear margins 14, and like the same are provided with fastening elements 24 and'26. Said band 22 issecured to-the brim 8 at four diflerent places by suitable means such as transverse stitches 28, leaving the rest of the band free so that'the said band 22 and thus secure the crown 2 to said brim 8. r I I Whenthe bonnet is to be laundried the Y crown 2is removed from thebrim 8. The rear margins of the brim 8 and the band 22 are then unfastened, so that they may be flattened out. 1 After the parts are laundried they-are again assembled by fastening the margins 14 of the brim 8 together. The

ends of the band 22 are also secured together, after which the flanges 6 are passed between the brim '8 and the band 22, the openings 4 coming opposite the stitches 28 as partly disclosed on Fig. 1. When the crown 2 is thus placed in position, it is reliably held upon the brim 8' by the flanges 6 and the band 22.

The modified form disclosed by Figs. 4 to 6, inclusive, is similar to the forms disclosed by Figs. 1-t 3, inclusive, as evidenced by corresponding reference numerals with exponents e. The main difference resides in the crown 2 marginal openings 4, but openings 4 for the passage of the band 22. Said band 22 is flanges 6'of the crown 2 may be passed' through the spaces between the brim 8 and r which does not have the the crown 2 and the brim 8 are combined in one piece as disclosed'on Fig. 8. The brim 8 is divided into four flanges 6 by openings 4*. A band 22 is provided which consists of three continuous elements 22*, 22

and 22. When the dust cap is to be laundried, the band 22" is removed from the combined crown 2 and brim 8 so that they may be flattened out. After being laundried the parts are assembled by passing the flanges 6 downwardly through the corresponding spaces 23 between the elements 22 and 22 the openings 4? coming opposite the stitches 28*, which hold the elements 22", 22 and 22 together. The flanges 6 are then folded upwardly through the openings 25 between the parts 22 and 22.

From the foregoing it will be readily understood that the several pieces which form the article may be readily taken apart and washed, ironed out straight or flat, and then again assembled.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. An article of the character described, consisting of a crown made from one piece of material adapted t be flattened out, a

brim separable from said crown and consisting of one piece of material adapted to be flattened out, and a band secured at intervals to said brim to leave spaces for the passage of the margins of the crown so that the lat ter and the brim will be held in assembled position.

2. An article of the character described, consisting of a one-piece crown adapted to be flattened out having flanges spaced apart by openings in said crown, a one-piece brim separable from said crown and adapted to be flattened out, and a band secured at intervals to said brim to leave spaces for the passage of the flanges which coact with the band in holding the brim and the crown in assem bled position.

3. An articleof the character described, consisting of a one-piece crown capable of being flattened out, a one-piece brim separable from said crown and capable of being flattened out, said brim'having two rear ends spaced apart by an intervening opening, means for detachably connecting said rear ends, and a band secured at intervals to said brim to leave spaces for the passage of the margins of the crown so that thg latter and the brim will be held in assembled position. 1
