facilitated, to avoid the inconvenience ordif encountered in connection with this narly operaton due to the necessity of jacking or prying up the drums or of manually lifting the same, as well as the loss of time incident to an operation which frequently interval in order to avoid interference with the functions of the apparatus, and to this end the invention consists in a .craneor transporting frame embodying hoisting means and embodying a construction and combination of parts of which a preferred form is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a side view.
Fig. 2 is a plan view.
Fig. 3 is an end elevation partly in section.
Fig. 4 is a transverse section of the track rails.
Fig. 5 is a detail of the track rails.
Fig. 6 is a similar view of one of the socket plates by which the inner ends of the track rails are supported and secured against longitudinal displacement.
The apparatus is designed especlally for use in connection with donkey engines of the type employed as hoisting means in connection with building operations and having the furnace 10, bed plate 11, bearing pedestals 12 and drums 13 of which the latter are usually of metal and of a weight which renders the displacement thereof for the purpose or repairing or relining the bearings a matter of diiiiculty involving a considerable expenditure of time and effort view of a portion of one which the vfolstructures whereby they lporting surface,
vrigidity while `suitable points and usually necessitating the discontinuance for a considerable period of time of the use of the engine. Y f
The crane embodying the invention conslsts essentially of parallel track yrails 14 supported by standards 15 and 16 provided at their upper extremities with seats 17 for `the reception of the bars forming the rails to the end that when not in use the vframe may be folded or the parts disconnected for arrangement within a small space for storage; said railsl being traversed by travelers or carriers 18 from which depend `hoisting devices 19.
Obviously the crane may be set up in p0- sition to span the drums of the donkey engine wherever the latter may be employed,
- and to this end the standards are providedat their lower ends with spurs indicated at 20 for effective engagement with 'the supand laterally inclined braces 21 may be used in connection with Patented May 31, 1921,
the-terminal standards 16 to give transverse-.
connecting the track rails at are transverse brace bars 22 having terminal cl'ps 23 for engagement with said rails. Also as a means of increasing the rigidity of the structure the inner ends of the track rails may be provided with depending studs 24 for engagementwith sockets 25 carried by plates 26 which may be riveted or otherwise permanently secured to the wall of the furnace casing 10.
In the construction illustrated the travelers or carriers consist of rollers 27 from the pintles of which depend yokes 28 which extend under the rails and serve as means of attachment for the eyes or hooks 29 on the upper pulley blocks of the hoisting devices. The lower pulley blocks indicated at 31 carry stirrups or hooks 32 for engagement with the drums or drum spindles, and 0bviously when it is desired to displace a drum to give access to its bearings, the frame having been erected as indicated, the stirrups 32 of the opposite hoisting devices carried respectively by the travelers or carriers may be engaged with the drum and when the latter has been raised to a suicient elevation the drum may be moved longitudinally of the frame and deposited upon a suitable rest or vehicle which may be arranged in the space beyond the base 11 and between the same and the terminal standards 16, or may ing devices suspended from the stirrups and be held in the elevated position. until the provided with means for engaging. engine bearingsl have been repaired.y drums, said rollers being provided With pe- 40 In the peripheries of the rollers 27 thereripheral sockets for engagement by an operare provided sockets V33 at intervals for enating pin'. or rod.
