STATE-S PATENT OFFICE.
HOUSTON 1V1. CARROLL, SR, OF SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS.
WASHING-MACHINE.
To all whom. it may concern r Be it known that I, HoUsToN M. CARROLL,
7 Sn, a citizen of the United States, residing provide "a Washing machine having a plunger, provided wi h means on one end there.- of for forcing the artlcles under operation toward the e ds f Of the bodyof the articleholding r pta e, the means be ng sash as will force the cleansing fluid through the articles. J
With the foregoing and other .objects in view which will appearla's the c lescription proceeds, the invention, resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, with-- out departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawings Figure 1 is a plan view of a washing machine constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on line 33 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the body of the receptacle includes a structure which is provided with a partitioning member 6 disposed intermediate the ends thereof, dividing the structure into .a tank 7 and a lever housing 8.
Rotatably supported between one end of the structure and the partitioning member 6, is an article receiving drum 9, which comprises opposed heads 10 and 11 respectively, which heads are connected by the spaced side members 12, which are provided with suitable openings 13 to permit fluid to pass freely through the walls of the drum 9.
A relatively short shaft 14: has one end 7 Specification of Letters Patent. Patented May 31, Application filed January 26, 1921. Serial No. 440,079. l
thereof passing through one end of the tank a wall, the opposite ",end thereof passing through the head 11, and through the bear,- ng 15, which bearing is. providedwithiian lnner head to S pp rt thehead 1,6, .o fthe sh f 14 n, pa a e with w en i I i As shown, the head 11 is cut away as.

Thls plunger '21 is dished in formation so that when the plunger is moved toward the head 10, a suction is-created within the drum 9 to draw the fluid through the articles belng washed and when the plunger 1S' I11OV8(1 towardthe head 11, the articles being washed are passed between the plunger 21 and plate 18 and the fluid thereby forced out of them, thus accomplishing the erating lever 22 which has its lower extremity pivotally connected to the housing, as at 23, the end'thereof extending to a position outside of the structure where the same may.
be readily and easily operated.
The rod 20 is pivotally connected to the lever 22 as at 24, whereby movement of the lever within the housing results in a relative movement of the rod 20 to'move the same within the drum 9,. The head 10 accommodates a portion of the flexible operat- 1ng member 25, which is boiled around the on the partitioning member 6.
Thus itwillbe seen th t asthe lever22 I removed.
It is'believed that in view of the foregoing description a further detail description of the operation of the device is unnecessary.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. In a washing machine, a body portion, a partitioning member within-the body portion dividing the same into a tank and a v lever housing, a rotatable drum supported within the tank, said drum having a plurality of openings formed in the wall thereof, a lever pivotally supported Within the lever housing, a plunger operating in the drum and having connection with the lever,
' means having connection with the lever and operating over the drum for rotating the drum, and said plunger havmg openings formed therein.
2. In a washing machine, a body portion,
'a'partitioning member within the body portion for dividing the body portion into a tank and a lever housing, a rotatable drum supported within the tank, said drum including opposed heads, one of said heads having a cut away portion, a plate supported in spaced relation with the walls of the cut away portion, said plate having a circumferential flange and having a plurality of openings, means operating within the drum for forcing fluid through the openings in the plate and into the space at the rear thereof, and means for rotating the drum.
3. In a washing machine, a'body portion, a partitioning member within the body portion, dividing the same into a tank and a lever housing, an article receiving drum rotatably mounted in said tank, said drum including opposed heads, spaced members connected to said heads and forming the sides of said drum, a lever pivotally supported within the lever housing, a flexible member coiled around one of the heads of the drum and having connection with said lever to rotate the drum, and a plunger connected with said lever and operating through the partition and reciprocable with said drum.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
