and useful improvements in toys, and the e primary object of my invention is to provide a mechanical toy representing two boxing figures the construction being such that on rotating a crank, the men will be actuated in such a manner as to simulate two fighting or boxing men thereby providing an entertaining toy. Y
Another object of the invention is to provide an entertaining toy, which can be manufactured cheaply, and which is of durable construction.
Vith these and other objects in view, the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and finally pointed out in the appended claims, it being further understood that changes in the specific structure shown and described may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views:
Figure l shows a perspective view of a toy constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is abottom view. Fig. 3 a transverse section. Fig; a a detail of one of the wire members as used in my invention.
In carrying out the aim of my invention, I employ a platform A, having the skirting panels a, a, and the transversely extending cleats B. there being three of said cleats. Located between the cleats are the four oppositely positioned slots l, 2, and 3, 4', while held kto `the cleats B are the two sets of bearings et and 5 and there being three bearings in each set, as shown.
The bearings 4 and 5 give support to the duplex crank shafts 7 and 8, held in parallel spaced relation, the cranks 9 and 10, and 9 and l0 extending in opposite directions, each shaft ending in a'handle h for turning said shafts the handles being connected by means of the link C having the operating handle The Acranks 9 .and 9 andlO and 10 Lare less than the diameter of the' shafts knuckle c at the end of each crank. As
shown these .cranks extend in alinement with the fslots 1,2, 3, and 4.
Movably heldin said slots are vthewire operating rods E E andF Feach ending in a loop o, slidably and loosely engaging a i crank in the manner shown in Fig. 2.
Secured to the upper face of the platform .A arethe two figures H and K representing two boxers. The figures are made of fabric material excepting Vthe heads, and are entirely supported by means of the rods E E and F F. The feet of the figures are glued, tacked or otherwise fixed to the platform. As shown in Fig. 4* each rod is wound by means of a fabric strip 18, of a size equal to the size of the arms of the figures, each arm ends in boxing mitt 15 and 16.
The wire rods extend through legs L L body and arms M and N of the figures the ends of the rods projecting beyond the sleeves of the garment covering each figure as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3.
other soft materialso that the rods can slide up and down freely as well as be permitted to turn and twist.
By means of the fabric cover forming garments and the stufiing, the rods are connected at their upper ends. v In order to imitate a prize fighters ring I provide the stakes and cords X. The operation Vof the toy is very simple, on rotating a shaft the cranks actuate the connected rods to impart a swaying backward and forward movement to the upper ends of the rods as well as an upward and downward movement resulting in the fists of the figures coming into con- Y tact with the bodies of figure opposite, the movements being very much like the actual movements of a boxer.
As the members E E and F F are of wire they can bereadily bent to insure the mitts properly hitting the opposite figure. As each shaft 7 and 8 has a handle h they can be turned independently as by two operators.
While the illustration and description of this invention is confined to a certain degree of particularity it is to be .realized that in practice variousalterations and changes may be made, and therefore, the right and privilege of changing the form of the details The .bodies are stuffed with wool, 'hair or any `so that there is .provided an enlargement or of construction and otherwise altering the arrangement of the correlated parts is reserved without departing from the spirit or' the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what is claimed as new and upon which Letters Patent are solicited is:
l. A mechanical toy comprising a base, a pair of flexible figures representing boxers arranged on the base and having their feet iixed thereto, a pair of reciprocable rods, extending longitudinally through each of the figures and attached to the hands of the latter, and operating meansconnected with the lower ends of the rods to reciproca-te the same to impart life like movements to the figures.
2. A toy comprising a base, a pair of flexible dolls representing boxers arranged thereon and having their feet attached thereto, a
rods extending vertically through each doll pair ot reciprocable rods extending longitudinally through the legs, trunk and arms oi' the dolls and haying their extremities attached to the hands of the same and means for reciprocating the rods whereby to swing the arms and twist the figures'from side to side at their trunks in life like fashion.
3. A mechanical toy including a base, having pairs of slots therein a plurality of flexi ble dolls each having its feet secured to the base above the slots, a pair of reciprocable the rods being bowed forwardly intermedij *ate their ends and their upper extremities connected to the hands of the dolls. the lower ends oi the rods projecting through the slots, and crank shafts below the base having operative connection with the latter ends of the rods to impart life like motion to the dolls.
