Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 1'? 1921.
Application filed February 12, 1919. Serial No. 276,548.
Paris, Department of the Seine, in France,
and Whose post-office address is 60 Boulevard de Clichy, 1n said city, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sparking Plugs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it app'ertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to ignition or sparking plugs and has for its object to provide an improved device of this kind. The improvement consists principally in. securing the insulating material in the body of the plug by means of a metal ring which is deformed under pressure thus insuring proper connection of the two parts.
The invention is described hereafter in detail with reference to the accompanying drawing, which shows diagrammatically by way of example aconstructional form of the invention.
The drawing represents in vertical section an ignition plug in which the insulating material is secured in the body by means of a ring.
The insulating material of the plug is shown at 1 and at 2 the metal body surrounding the insulating material and having an undercut groove 3. 4: represents the metal ring which serves to fix the insulating ma terial in the body of the plug.
To hold the insulating material 1 in the body of the plug 2, the metal ring 4 is placed around the insulating material and pressure is brought to bear on this ring so that it is deformed and fills the groove 3 and thus pr0- vides a suitable joint between the two parts.
I claim:
A spark plug, including a metallic body portion having an axial opening therethrough and an undercut angular groove adacent to the upper end of the opening, an
insulating barrel located within said body portion having a face inclined toward and substantially parallel with said undercut groove and a metallic ring forced against said inclined face and into said groove to bind the insulating barrel in position Within the body portion.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
EDMOND LEYMARIE.
