IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-WEIGHTS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 137,753, dated April 15,1873 application tiled March 3, 1873.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, PETER ASHEN, of the city of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania., have invented certain Improvement in Sash- Weights, of which the following is a specification:

My invention consists in casting tWo holes into sash-weights for attaching the sash-cord thereto, the lower one forming a recess or seat for a knot which is tied at the end of the cord and holds the Weight.

Figure 1 represents a flat sash-Weight with my improvement, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the round Weight with the same.

In fastening the sash-cord to the weight I pass it first through the upperhole from the larger side A, then return it through the lower one, tie a simple knot at the end thereof, which, on drawing-the cord, nicely rests in the aforementioned recess or seat B, and the Weight is readily and securely fastened.

When the Weight is suspended the cord rests in a groove above the upper hole, representing the top-center of said Weight, which thus hangs in a perpendicular position.

The advantages of my improvement are: That a sufficiently-deep hole for the knot is thus attainable in either a flat or a round Weight; that the weight can be produced as cheap as ordinary sash-Weights; is easily fastened to the cord; never parts therefrom by the knot wearing or coming undone; and does not stick fast up at the pulley, which often happens with those noW in use, unless the cord is left unnecessarily long.

I claim- The combination of the holes B and A, beveled from the same side, and the vertical recess above the latter, allarranged as described, and for the purpose herein set forth.
