Application filed Februar -24, 1021. Serial no. 447,588.
To all whom it conceive :f
. Be it known that I, JOHN VELoIo, citizen a of theUnited States of America residing at 110 West Woodland avenue,
Casings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relatesrto' tires, and more particularly to casingsfor neumatic tires. The principal objectof t is invention is to provide a tire casing havin a removable tread portion in order to ace the same with a new tread. when the o d'tread has become worn out.
Another object is to provide a base portion for said tread for the purpose of making the casin practically free from puno turesand at t e same time providing a securing means for holding the removable tread in position.
- Another object is to provide an upper edge of the sidewalls of the casing having incased therein a metallic cord or wire.
A still furtherobjeot is to provide a filler part at each side of the casing.
The drawin illustrates the Ipreferred embodiment of t e invention.
to meeting difierent conditions, various changes in the form, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the nature of the invention as claimed and set forth in the drawing:
The figure is a perspective view of my improved casing showing a cross section ofthe owever, it is to be understood that in adapting the same the upper portion' of the side wall 5 and also thickens the wall at this place, thereby practically eliminating the puncturing of an inner tube within the casing 2 from side penetration.
I have rovided upper edges 7 511 the side walls 5.3 hese upper edges 7 have inoased therein metallic cords or wires-8 for he purpose of holding the edges 7 within the channels 9, which are formed hear each ofsthe outer edges of the tread 10. The tread 10 is provided with overlapping wings 11 which fit down over the side walls 5 at.
points 12. In order to providea removable tread 10, I have provided a'base portion 13 n n which rests upon the web portion 3 and fits underneath and ainst the inner curved portion 14 ofthe side walls 5. In order to give a certain degree of elasticity and resiliency in the tread 10, I have provideda core 15 centrally located in the base portion of the tread, this core 15 to be formed of asoft rubber material- Surrounding this core 15, I have provided reinforcing webs 16 which will also act as a resisting means against puncture.
It'will be seen that the space usuall o'ccupied by an inflated tube has been uced and it is my purpose to use an inner tube of a smaller circumference than would otherwise be used in a casing having similar dimensions to my improved casing; What I claim is: 1.
In a device-of the class described, a casing'provided-with two outer walls, a support. web, bifurcated ends on said web se- .curely attached to said side walls,a filler secured within these bifurcated endsand outer wall, an upper edge of side walls, achannel in sides of tread, a wing portion overlapping said upperedge, a metallic bond lncased in said upper edge of casing,
substantially as described for the purpose set forth. f In testimony whereof I afiix my si ature. i JOHN VE .CI'O.
