The handle 2 is provided on the top surface with a recess 12 and a projection 13. n. ginilet le is pivotally connected to the handle at 15 and when raised is adapted to engage the projection 13 as illustrated in Fig. l. llhen lowered the girnlet is adapted to he received in the recess 12. rlhe top of the handle 2 is substantially straight as indicated in Fig. 1. Notches 16 are formed in the handle 2, adjacent the pivot point 3, and when the handles 1 and 2 are in their normal position these notches are adapted to register with similar notches formed in the handle 1 which are not shown in the drawings. The handle 2 is formed on one end with a jaw 17 of the same configuration as the jaw 5, and is provided with the concaved serrated recess 18 adapted to register with the recess 7 in the jaw 5. This jaw i7 is also provided with the serrations 19 adapted to cooperate with the serration 8 ot' the jaw 5. The jaw 17 is further provided on each side with the semi-circular recesses 20, similar to the recesses 9, and a kniie 2l is formed integral with the jaw, within the recesses, and adapted to coperate with the kniie 10, and as is illustrated in Fig. 3 the sharpened edges or" the knives 9 and 2l are adapted to meet when the jaws are closed. A pointed projection 22 is formed on the end oi the jaw 17 and cooperates with the pointed projection 11 to make up a circular pointed projection.

An arcuate-shaped` ratchet har 25 is adapted to pass through the perforation in the projection 24 as illustrated in Figs. 2 and l, and this ratchet har is provided on each end with a plate 26. n. slidahle pawl 2T is received in the socket or pocket 23 and is adapted to engage the teeth of the ratchet bar 25. A coiled spring 28 is received in the socket or pocket 23 behind the pawl, and normally holds the forward end of the pawl in engagement with the ratchet har. An elongated open* ing 29 is formed in the under face of the socket 23, and a projection 80 on the pawl 27 extends through said elongated opening and provides a linger-hold for operating the pawl. As illustrated in Figs. l and 2 when the parts are in assembled position the pointed ends of the projections l1 and 22 will lie intermediate the plates 26 and on a plane therewith.
From the above detailed description it is thought that the construction and operation of the-device will be clearly understood. I have provided a combination tool which is particularly adapted for the use of wire workers and provides means whereby the wire may be cut, scraped, and stretched in position. I also provide means, in the form of a gimlet, for boring holes for receiving screws or the like and also provide a screwdriver for inserting the screws. For cutting small wires I have provided knives l0 and 21and for cutting larger wires I have provided the recesses or notches 16 in the handle 2 and similar notches in the handle l. The knife 6 may be used for scraping insulated wire so as to form proper connection. If it is desired to grip the wire for stretching -or other purposes the wire may be inserted in the serrated recesses 7 and 18 or gripped between the serrated faces 8 and 19 of the jaws. When the wire is to be stretched it is gripped as described and the pointed ends of the projections 11 and 22 may be engaged with the object to which the wire is to be attached. The plates 26 on the arcuate-shaped ratchet bar 25 may also be engaged against the object. By drawing upon the handles the wire will be stretched and the pawl 27 will pass over the teeth in the ratchet bar 25 and hold the handles in position for holding the wire stretched until it may be attached in position. The pawl may be released by grasping upon the projection 8O and forcing the pawl backward against the tension of the coiled spring 28. The perforated projection 24 forms a guide for the ratchet bar.
The foregoing description and the draw-v ings have reference to what may be considered the preferred or approved form of my invention. It is to be understood that I may make such changes in construction and arrangement and combination of parts, materials, dimensions, etc., as may prove eX- pedient and fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. A tool comprising pivotally connected handles, a jaw formed on each handle, a perforated projection formed on one aw, a
ratchet bar passing through said perforated projection, and means carried on the jaw for engaging the ratchet bar.
2. A tool comprising a pair of pivotally connected handles, a jaw formed on each handle, a perforated projection formed on one jaw, an arcuate-shaped ratchet bar passing through the.perforated projection, and a slidable pawl carried by thejaw and adapted to Vengage the ratchet bar.
3. A tool comprising a pair of pivotally connected handles, a jaw formed on one end of each handle, a perforated projection formed on one jaw, an arcuate-shaped ratchet bar slidably mounted in the projection, a pocket formed on the jaw adjacent the perforated projection, a pawl slidably mounted in the pocket, and a spring carried in the pocket and engaging the pawl for normally holding it in engagement with the ratchet bar.

A tool comprising a pair of piv-otally connected handles, a jaw formed on each handle, a pointed projection formed on the end of each jaw, a perforated projection formed on one jaw, an arcuate-shaped ratchet bar slidable through the perforated projection, a pocket formed on this jaw, and a spring-controlled pawl slidably mounted in the pocket for engagement with the ratchet bar.
5. A tool comprising pivotally connected handles, a jaw formed on the end of each handle, a ratchet bar slidably connected to one jaw so as to extend at right angles to the path of movement of the jaws, and means for engaging the ratchet bar for the purp-ose specified.
6. A tool comprising pivotally connected handles, jaws formed on the handles, a ratchet bar slidably connected to the tool, means on the tool for engaging the ratchet bar, and means on the ends of the ratchet bar for engaging against an object for the purpose and in the manner specified.
7 A tool comprising pivotally connected handles, jaws formed on the handles, a ratchet bar slidably connected to the tool, means on the tool for engaging the ratchet bar, and plates on the ends of the ratchet bar for engaging against an'object for the purpose and in the manner specified.
