Be it known that I, Gnonen' F. GRUBE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Evanston, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have .invented a'new and useful Improvement in Drawer-Locking Devices, of which the following isla full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to an improvement in drawer locking devices for trunks, and more particularly to drawer locking devices for wardrobe -trunks, having two compartments hinged together.

- One of the objects of my invention is to provide a cheap and efiicient locking device,

' which can readily be connected thereto,

without the provision of hinged bars nected to the frame of the trunk.

Another object of myinvention is to provide adevice of this kind whichis so arranged that when one of the drawers is locked, the remaining drawers can be simultaneously locked, or the one drawer can be locked without looking the remaining drawers. V

The precisenature of my invention will be best understood by referenceto the accompanying drawings which will now be described, it being premised, however, that various changes may be made in the details of construction and arrangement, without departing from the scope of my invention as defined in the appended claims.-

In these drawings, 10 designates the hanger compartment of the trunk which is hinged to the drawer compartment 12, in the usual manner, and 13 are drawers slidably mounted in the compartment 12.

14: is a downwardly opening socket member, which in the device illustrated is connected to theiuppe 'r drawer, and 15 is an upwardly opening'socket member, which in this case is connected to the lower drawer.

' 16 is a plate secured to theupper face of l the reinforcing member 17 between the bottom drawer and the drawer above it, and which reinforce is secured to the frame of the compartment in the usual manner. The plate16 is provided with an eye 18 for the reception of a drawer locking rod 19 having rounded ends, and is of sufiicient length to extend into both socket members 14 and 15, when in looking position to prevent removalwhen the drawers are closed.

' In; the case shown, the upperdrawer is .provlded with .a lock 20 whereby the upper drawermay be locked to the frameo-ff the trunk when in its closed position, and through'the medium of the rod 19 and its connections with the. socket members 14: and 15,.andthe eye 18, prevent the opening: of the remainder of the drawers.

Assuming all of the drawersto be looked as shown in Fig. 1, and it is desired to un lock the drawers, the upper drawer is first unlocked and slightly withdrawnto a positionsimilar'to that shown in Fig. 3. .The front of the upper drawer is then elevated slightly to free theupp er endof the rod 19, from ,thesocket member 14. The rod 19 can then be lifted'from the socket-member 15 and thereby free all of the drawers. When it is desired to look all of the drawers, the rod 1 9 is first inserted in the socket member 15 through the eye 18, and the upper end of the rod is engaged with the socket member 14 by raising the front of the upper drawer. The upper drawer isthen closed and locked to restrain the upper end of the rod against movement, and as the lower end of the rod is restrained against movement by the eye 18, all of the drawers below the top drawer will be locked by the rod 19.

If desired, the upper drawer can belocked without inserting the bar, so that all of the drawers below the top drawer are free to be opened. I

In the construction shown I have provided means for looking all of the drawers, but if desired, the socket members can be placed on any two drawers to lock the said drawers, together with the drawers between them.

It will also be understood that if it is desired to lock one of the lower drawers with a key lock and look all of the drawers C above it with the rod, it is only necessary to reverse theparts, and if desired the top and bottom drawers can be locked with a key lock, in which case the eye plate 16 can be dispensed with.

The advantages of my invention result from the provision of a drawer lock for trunks comprising a removable rod extendinglacross the drawers to be locked, and which is arranged to be retained in its locking position by means of one of the drawers, which. is locked in its closed position by means of a locking device.

a plurality of drawers slidably mounted therein,'means to lock one of the. drawers to the trunk body, a looking bar, independ ent of said locking means, extending in front of other drawers, a seat in which one end of the locking bar is adapted to swing, and a seat carried by the first named drawer in which the other end of the locking bar is adaptedto swing, said'bar being removable from its seats when the first named drawer is unlocked and pulled outward.
