Description
UNITED sTATEsf FREDOLF J". PETERSON, OF ALLIANCE, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE MCCASKEY REGISTER PATENT OFFICE..
COMPANY,K(INCORPORATED IN 1914,) OF ALLIANCE, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO.
. To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, F REDOLFJ PETERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alliance, in the countyof Stark and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Card-Holders, of which the following is a specification, j
The invention relates to a rackl or frame forholding a large number of cards, and especially to hold the same in such a manner as will conceal one portion and disclose another portion of the face of each card; and
the object of the improvement is to provide, by a simple construction, such a frame as will hold and display a maximum number of cards within a minimum amount of space.
This general object and ancillary advantages are attained by nesting a series of slightly spaced V-shaped sheets or plates of stiff material, so that cards may be entered on both sides of the series between the free edge of one sheet and the adjacent face of the next sheet.
A preferred embodiment of the invention as used in an ice cream manufacturing business, is illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, in which- Figure l is a perspectiveview of several frames constructed in accordance with the present invention, one of which frames is partly brokenaway to show details;
Fig. 2, a fragmentary cross section as on line 2 2, Fig. 3 showing details of construction; Y
Fig. 3, a longitudinal section as on line 3 3, Fig. 2, showing other details of construction; Y
Fig. 4:, a detached perspective view partly broken away, of one of the V-shaped plates; and Y Fig. 5, a perspective view of a tag having a detachable coupon for filing in the holder. l
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the drawings.
A plurality of rectangular frames are` strips 3,'may be longitudinally secured atV Specification of Letters Patent.

spaced intervals between the end strips 2, of
the frame, for making ai plurality of com-jy partments therein.
` In each longitudinal `space or compartmaterial, each sheet being nested in another, but being located ataspaced interval therefrom,as shown more clearly in Fig. 2. The V-shaped sheets 4 maybe mounted in the frame by stamping or striking an eye or loop 5 inward from the angle adjacent to each end of the sheet, as best shown in Fig. 1i, through which loops a wire or rod 6 is passed for supporting the V-sheet in proper position. The supporting wires or rods 6 may be passed through apertures 7 in the partition and side strips of the frame, and finishing plates 8 may be secured tothe side strips for` concealing the ends of the wires and retaining them in the frame.
By this construction and arrangement, the receptacle formed by each V-sheet of each series is individually supported in nested arrangement with reference to the adjacent sheets, and although each sheet may rotate a slight distance upon the pivotal support formed by the supporting wire, it is nevering faces of the next-above adjacent sheet;
and when so inserted the angle of the sheetor the supporting wire, as the lcase may be, furnishes a stop `for the lower edges of the cards. j
The card holder thus described, may be used for holding cards constituting a directory of the guests of a hotel or for any other like purpose requiring the filing of a large number of cards within a limited space; yand as shown, the appliance is well adapted for holding the coupons 9 which may be detached along the weakened line l0 from the body of the tag 11 which may be used for marking the cans or buckets sent out by an ice cream manufacturer.
In such a business, a large number of cans or buckets are sent out daily to customers at distant points and unless returned within a limited time, soon become forgotten and llO lost; and for this reason there is usually a regulation requiring the return of such cans or buckets Within a certain number of days from the time of delivery.
To check up the location of outstanding cans, the date of shipment and time for return is preferably noted at the top of the tag carrying the name and address of the customer, and likewise at the top of the coupon originally connected therewith; and at the time of shipment, the coupon is detached from the tag and inserted in the card holder, which may have its retaining plates provided With an exposed numberV 12 corresponding to the number of the particular customer.
When led in the card holder, the date of shipment and time for return visibly protrudes above the retaining sheet, and it is evident that by these means the outstanding cans or buckets can be readily checked at any time, by a mere inspection of the card holder, and that upon a return thereof, the corresponding coupons may be removed romthe holder.
I claim:
l. A card holder including a series of V- shaped receptacles spaced apart in nested arrangement, and means supporting the receptacles at their angles only permitting them to rock laterally with reference to each other on their respective supports.
2. A cardholder including upright partition strips and transverse Wire supports, and a series of nested V-shaped receptacles vpivotally supported at their angles upon the Wires for lateral movement with reference to each other.
FREDOLF J. PETERSON.
