Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that LCHARLns R. LAMBERT,
a citizen of the United States of America,
residing at Detroit, in the county of VVayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Firepots, of which the following is a spec fication reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings. l
This invention relates to fire pots or hire devices and refers more particularly to a novel arrangement of supporting standardand guard plate'supports for vessels of the general character above IIIGHtIODBdHLlthOLIgh it is of course understood thatthe invention is not necessarily limited to the particular construction with which it is described.
Among the objects of the invention are to provide a fire pot or similar constructlon wherein the necessity of using cast parts is particularly avoided; to completely form the supporting standard or splder member from sheet metal bent into propershape and preferably combined with a central hub portion; to provide'an improved and simplified construction of guard support which can be formed "from sheet metal; and in general to provide an improved andsimplified construction which can be more economically produced and which wlll be lighter in weight than devices of this character now in use and still retain the necessary strength.
The invention also resides in other. details of construction and arrangements and combinations of parts as will more fully herein 7 after appear.

In portable fire pots or'similar devices while light weight is desirable, it is necessary that the'supporting standards or other parts have suflicient' strength and rigidity to Withstand the hard usage to which such devices are often subjected, particularly in carry ng from one point'to another.
Heretofore it has-been customary to support the fire pot from the tank or other base by means of a cast metal member and the present invention particularly contemplates a new and improved arrangement of parts whereby the use of a cast supporting stand metal member are'secured.
In general the fire pot comprises the base or tank A and the sheet metal body B sup ported on the base by'means of a standard ard is avoided and the advantages of a sheet r CFFI'CE.

At its front the fire pot is usually provided with anopening N through which the tool is inserted into the fire pot and at the lower end of this opening there is placed a guard or hearth plate 0. For plvotally supporting the. outer end of this guard plate and to establish arest for such tools as may be insertedthrough the opening N I have provided a novel arragement of supportin member Q which is formed as follows: A piece of sheet metal is bent to provide a central cylindrical portion R vvhich has forwardly bent arms It and R These arms are formed with web portions S and flanges S and S which form a channel and at their inner ends the arms are. provided with segmental portions T and T which are secured to the main body portion B by ri'vets, welding or other suitable means. At the junction of the cylindrical portion R and the arms R and R the metal is preferably shaped to produce reinforcing rings V and V which further strengthen the guard support and prevent the guard from moving laterally. By constructing the supporting member for the guard plate in substantially the manner above described, an extremely light weight member is produced without sacrificing the necessary strength and rigidity. The plate 0 will prevent solder, or the like, dripping upon the lower portion of the fire pot.
Another feature of my invention resides in the arrangement and provision of a sheet metal reinforcing ring and support at the upper end of the main body section B. Previously this reinforcementhasbeen formed as a heavy casting member but in the present arrangement the ring W is formed from a flat piece of sheet'metal bent into ring shape. At its upper end the reinforcing member W has a return-bent flange W which ma if desired, contain a strengthenin wire W It also has a depending flange which fits closely against the inner surface of the upper edge of the main body section B. As this reinforcin ring W is also used as a support for t e auxiliary melting pot Y,.the ring is provided with down. As the flange W of the ring W has cut-away portions near the projections Y, I utilize the abutment shoulders Z and Z as stops for preventing the bail from swinging beyond the center of the fire pot.
rom the above description it will be noticed that practically the entire firepot is formed from sheet metal and that the shape and construction of the fittings are such as to give sufficient rigidity to the structure. I do not, however, desire to limit the invention to the particular details shown and described as various changes would suggest themselves to those skilled in the art.
What I claim as my invention is 1 1. In a fire pot, the combination with a main body portion and a tank or other sup porting member, of a sheet metal standard mounted on said tank and having integral upwardly extending arms secured to said body portion.
2. In a fire pot, the combination with a supporting member, of a sheet metal stand: ard mounted on said tank and havingqintegral upwardly extending arms secured to said body portion, said body portion being providedwith a shield and a sheet metal support for said shield.
3. In a fire pot, the combination with a main body portion and a tank or other supporting member, of a sheet metal standard mounted on said tank and having integral upwardly. extending arms secured to said body portion, said body portion being provided with a shield and'a sheet metal support for said shield, said support being bent to form a central cylindrical portion con nected to the channel shaped arms.

The combination with a fire'pot having a main body portionprovided with a shield, of a support for said shield comprising a sheet metal member bent to form a central cylindrical portion, channel shaped arms terminating in segmental portions secured tov said main body portion, and reinforcing rings formed at the junctions of said arms with said cylindrical portion.
6. The combination with a fire pot having a main body portion provided with a guard, of a pivotal support for said guard comprising a sheet metal member forming a pivot for said guard and having arms secured to said main body portion.
7. In a fire pot, the combination with a main body portion formed of sheet metal, of a reinforcing ring for the upper end of said body portion, said ring being formed of sheet metal and having integral inwardly projecting supporting flanges.

9. In a fire pot, the combination with a main body portion and a bail for said main body portion connected thereto at one side of the center, of a reinforcing ring for the upper end of the main body portion, said ring having a cut away portion receiving the bail and maintaining the latter substantially upright.
10. In a fire pot, the combination with a main body portion, and a tank or other supporting member of a sheet metal standard, mounted on said tank and comprising a boss engaging the tank and integral divergent arms, supporting said body at' an elevation above the tank.
11. In a fire pot, the combination with a jecting above the edge of said body portion and having a radial inward projection for supporting a vessel on the fire pot. 7
12. In a fire pot, the combination with a main body formed of sheet metal, of a reinforcing ring, engaging the upper edge of said body portion and folded at intervals to form radial inward projections forming supports for the vessel to be heated by the fire pot.
13. The combination with a fire pot having a main body portion having an opening for the insertion of tools in said portion, of a support for such tools, comprising a sheet metal member bent to forma central cylindrical portion and further forming channel shaped arms, secured to said main body portion, adjacent to said opening.
