MARKER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patgnted Apr. 12, 1921 Application filed November 13, 1919. SeriaI No. 337,812.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PEDRO GIORDANO, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at No. 757 Victoria St, Buenos Aires, Argentina, have-invented certain new and useful Improvements in Markers, of which the following is a specification. P
My letters Patent, granted by the Gov ernment of the United States of America, under No. 1,312,248, for the term of 17 years, dating from the 5th August 1919, refers to a distinguishing ring or band, applicable to all kinds of articles or animals and characterized by the fact that it is composed of two metal plates, preferably of aluminium, provided with numbers and other indications for purposes of reference and control, which metal plates are joined together in a permanent manner and hold in position an identification plate, also provided with means of reference and control.
The present invention has for object a new method of securing the said identification plate, thereby avoiding certain inconveniences presented by the two metal plates while at the same time facilitating its attachment and considerably diminishing the cost.
In order that the presentinvention may be clearly understood and easily employed, it has been represented, by way of example, in the attached drawings, in which Figure 1 shows a securing pin.
Fig. 2 shows a strengthening washer.
Fig. 3 shows another strengthening washer.
Fig. 4 shows the extremity of the pin where the seal of guarantee is applied once the ring has been placed in position, and finally,
Fig. 5 shows the said ring or band.
In all the figures mentioned the same reference numbers indicate the same or corresponding parts. I
The means of attachment in accordance with the present invention are constituted essentially by a pin (Fig. 1) preferably of aluminium or other appropriate metal, pro vided with a head 1 and a broad portion 2, preferably circular, as well as a narrower portion 3, also preferably circular, which 1s provided with a number of orifices 4. The transversely extending apertures & weaken the solid shank 3and in consequence facilitates riveting. These apertures are provided for the purpose of reducing the resistance when rlvetlng and for obtainlng an expansion of the, metal in a manner more easy than the riveting of a solid shank. 5 is a metal washer provided with a central orifice which corresponds in shape and size with the broad portion 2 of the pin, while 6 is another metal washer, also provided with a central orifice which corresponds substantially in shape and size to the narrow portion of the said pin. 9 is an identification plate, provided with an orifice 8, the shape and size of which also correspond to the narrow part of the said pin and which bears indications for the purpose of reference and control as well as for identifica-' tion.
For the purpose of attaching the ring or band a perforation is made in the article to which it is to be applied, as for example the ear of an animal, by means of pincers or other suitable instrument, and the washer 5 having been placed on the pin, against the head 1 of the same, the said pin is passed.
through the perforation. The object of the washer 5 is to prevent tearing. The iden tification plate 9 is then placed on the pin on the opposite side of the ear and the washer 6 is then superimposed. Once this has been done, the portion 7 of the pin is riveted by means of any suitable instrument, indications of reference and control being placed thereon if so desired, at the time of riveting, as well as on the free face of the pin-head 1, if found convenient. All the parts remain in this manner perfectly secured and sealedand the identification plate remains in position,'lying flat upon the.object which it is intended to identify.
It is evident that modifications ofdetail may be introduced, without thereby departing from the scope of the present invention, which isclearly determined in the clauses of the claim which follows this-application.
Thepresent invention having been thus described, I declare that what fclaim is as follows:
1. A marking ring, for identification and control purposes, comprising a pin provided on its shank with transverse orifices, designed to hold between its riveted extremities two safety washers which in their turn secure an identification plate also fitted on the shank of the said pin and a portion of the object which it is desired to identify,
also traversed by the pin, between one of the'said safety Washers and the identification plate, substantially as has been de scribed.
2. A marking ring, for identification and control purposes, comprising a pin, provided on its shank with transverse orifices, safety Washers traversed by the said pin, an identification plate traversed by the pin between the said washers, and a portion of the object to be identified also fitted on the pin between the said plate and the washer nextto the head of the pin, the extremities of the said pin being riveted in such a manner that they bear indications of identity and control, substantially as has been described and for the objects specified.
3. A marker including a shank having a head, an integral boss located adjacent to the head, a washer fitted on the shank and engaging the boss and head, a second washer fitted on the shank, said shank being provided with a number of transversely extending apertures, and an identification plate mounted on the shank between the first and second washers, the free end of said shank being riveted, and the transverse apertures facilitating the riveting.
In testimony. whereof I afiix my signature.
PEDRO GIORDANO.
