DOOR-INTERLOCK.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNEST B. THUns'roN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Toledo, Lucas county, Ohio, have invented new and useful Door-Interlocks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to power control features interconnected with a shiftable member.
l his' invention has utility when incorpo rated in an interlock, as for electric elevator landing doors.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a power diagram of an alternating current electric elevator installation having the invention of this disclosure shown therein;
Fig. 2 is a detail view on an enlarged scale of a landing door having the latch release and interlock;
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view of the latch release and interlock in switch and door closed position; and
Fig. 4: is a view similar to Fig. 3, but with the latch in shifted position and the switch open.
A motor 1 has power supply thereto by way of main switch 2 and direction switches 3, 4:, as controlled by controller 5 on elevator car 6 which may travel up and down in elevator shaft or well 7 between landings 8 at which landings may be sliding doors 9, movable to open position as to the elevator well when the car 6 is at such landing thereby permitting ingress and egress.
Fixed as to the elevator shaft is pivot bearing 10 for horizontally extending arm 11, having downward offset or latch portion 12, with free end extension 13 therebeyond of such length that the fully open door 9 will maintain the latch arm 11, 12, 13, in housing 14 carriedby the door 9. In this housing 1 1 is catch or abutment 15 behind which offset or latch 12 may fall as the door 9 is in fully closed position, thereby holding the door against opening travel. From this abutment 15 toward th front edge of the door 9, there extends in the housing 1 1 a guide 16, which holds the arm 11, 12, 13, moved or lifted at all times when the door 9 is not closed.

venient position for grasping by the elevator operator. Such arm, when pulled in the natural direction for opening the door 9, ;';hat is, away from closed position, swings such arm slightly on pivot bearing 18 carried by th door 9, so that angle extension 19 therefrom may have its offset terminus 20 shifted upward to lift latch 12 clear of abutment 15. The upper side of the. housing 141 limits the extent of this upward shifting of the latch arm 11, 12, 13, and as the opening or unlatching pull on the handle 17 persists, the unlatched door 9 slides to open position. This travel of the door 9 may be on rollers 21 on ways 22. As the door commences its travel, the guide 16 at once is in position to maintain the latch arm 11, 12, 13, in the moved or shifted position, should the handle 17 be released. This guide 16 is positive in its action and is housed in the door carried housing 1% against tampering, say to the ex tent of having the housing 14 sealed by rivets 23. V I
Depending from the pivot mounting 10 is arm 2 extending into housing 25, which may be sealed against tampering by rivets 26. In this housing 25 there is a pair of terminals 27 in the line between the main motor switch 2 and the car controller 5. With movable switch member 28, carried by the arm 24, away from the contacts 27, theremay be no driving of the elevator car 6 by operation of the controller 5, for the line to the main switch 2 is open and such remote control solenoid switch is not effective for being energized and shifting to permit supply of power current to the motor 1 to cause th elevator car 6 to travel in any direction. The position of the arm 24, as to the angle latch assembly 2 1, 11, 12, 13, is such, that should there be disconnection of the horizontal portion 11, 12, 13, the depending portion 24 would so hang that the contact 28 would open this switch and be away from the terminal means 27. Inspection control of this safety installation may provide the sealing by the rivets 23, 26, or such other means as may be deemed desirable.
As the latch arm 11, 12, 13, is positively in unlatched position, during any position of the door 9 which is not closed position, likewise, the switch 27 28, is always in open position with the door open. This switch 27 28, is a cut-out in the power control cir cuit of this electric elevator installation,
simultaneously thrown to open or cut-out position with the unlatching of the door, even before there is any shifting of the door, and remains unlatched while the door is open.
From the foregoing, it will be seen the principle of the disclosure is that the opened door, through the medium of the door releasing latch in door unlatching position, as held by the opened door, has positive control of an interlock switch precluding car travel as long as the latch is thrown,
whether manually by the operator before the door is shifted, or whether maintained.

For an opening having but a single door, even such as-herein shown, the extension 18 of the arm is not necessary, as the holding of the arm during full door travel may be accomplished by the guide 16. However, when the door travels more than its width, as in instances where two doors close an opening, the extension 13 is of such length as to coact with the door even when fully open. The form of pivotal mounting of the latch with the disposal of theswitch, one on one side of the opening and the other on another side allows of installation where little space is available, or requires less space than when installed, say both above the door,
The device may be readilyadapted to permit closing of the switch 27, 28, before the door is fully closed, and as shown in Fig. at, this includes a latching of the door against opening. In carrying out this feature, a second abutment 29 is provided for the fully closed position of thedoor in holding the guide 16 against permitting any door shifting, while the abutment 12 1s so positioned that it may act when the door 18 not quite closed, say within four lnches of closed. This position of the abutment 12 permits the contact 28 to swing to close the switch, while the final settling of the latch arm at abutment 29, when the door is fully closed merely takes up yield in the arm 24. or in the switch 27, 28. This means that the car may be started before the door is fully closed. However, at such prelimlnary almost closed position, the door is latched against opening.
What is claimed and it is desired to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An actuator, means driven by the actuator, a. cut out for the actuator as to the means, and a shiftable member provided with an arm movable to release the member for shifting and simultaneously operating the cut-out, said member carrying means holding the arm in moved position as long as the member is shifted.
2. An elevator, a motor therefor, a door for the elevator, a cut-out for the motor adjacent the door, a catch for the door having an extension to the cut-out, and a releasing arm for freeing the door from the catch and simultaneously operating the cutout, there being means maintaining the latch and cut-out in shifted position while the door is open.
3. An electric elevator eluding a shaft having a well-door provided with a latch, a motor for the elevator, a switch for the motor, a housing for a movable portion of said latch and said switch, and a guide carried by the door for holding the latch thrown while the door is open, said latch in its movement to unlatching position controlling said switch.
4:. A sliding door electric interlock including a latch arm, a pivot mounting therefor, a door carried abutment and guide permitting the arm to fall into door latching position when the door is closed and holding the latch shifted when the door is open, a switch controlled by the position of the latch arm, and a housing for the switch.
5. A door electric interlock including an angle latch arm, a pivot mounting therefor, a door carried abutment and guide permitting the abutment to hold the door latched as to said arm when the door is closed and the guide to hold the latch shifted when the door is open, the angle portion of said arm being beyond the pivot mounting from said abutment and guide coacting portions and depending to provide the throw member of a switch, switch terminal means, and a housing for the throw member and terminal means, said depending arm by gravity holding the switch in door guide open should there be disconnection between the angle portions of the arm.
6. A door electric interlock including a switch, a latch, and shifting the latch and opening the switch simultaneously, there being a door guide holding the switch open.
