I'm/M307":
Zena g'ywem'om,
LENA J. SYVER$OI-L GE IRONTON, MINNESOTA.
LAUNDRY-STRAINER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 12, 13921.
Application filed. June 19, 1919. Serial No. 305,303.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, LENA J. Srvnnson, a citizen of the United States, residing; at Ironton, in the county of Crow Wing and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Laundry-Strainers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in laundry strainers.
Its object is to facilitate the removal of Washed articles from a laundry boiler and to conveniently and quickly compress ncess moisture from such articles.
ii further object is to remove boiled articles from hot water Without wetting or burning the hands of the laundress.
Figure ii is an elevation of my device in operative position in a laundry boiler with the squeezer elevated. Fig. 11 is a similar view with the squeezer depressed-and Fig. III is a perspective view of my device.
My device comprises a foraminous receptacle or tray A. and a foraminous squeezer ll,
. the latter being articulated at one end to the receptacle by the hinge 10. T e receptacle A consists of a frame 11, preferably of metal rods, to which is attached the wire mesh fabric 12, inclosing the sides, ends and bottom of the receptacle. The frame 11 is supplied with curved flanges or hangers 13, adapted to engage the upper edge 1% of the wash-boiler 15 to support the receptacle A. Said receptacle is preferably made to conform to the shape of the boiler at one end and to occupy about half of its length and depth the purpose being" to suspend it above the water in the boiler by the hangers 13 and leave a space at one end of the boiler for lifting; the boiled articles from the Water. Said receptacle is also provided with the handles 16 for conveniently adjustii s; the hangers 13 on the boiler and also to remove the receptacle iii. when it is filled with boiled laundry pieces.
The squeezer B is also composed of wire mesh fabric mounted upon the frame 17 and conforms to the outlines of the upper portion of the receptacle A, being adapted to fit snugly therein. It is of course understood that the squeezer B should be of sufiiciently heavy wire, properly reinforced by the frame 17 to make the squeezer rigid, so that it may be used to apply considerable pressure to the wet articles in the receptacle A. A handle 18 is also provided on the top of the free end of the member 13 by means of which the squeezer may be lifted or pressed into the receptacle A. when the latter is filled with the articles removed from the boiler.
in operation the articles to be laundricd are boiled in the usual. way, after which they may be removed from the boiling water by means of the Wash stick 19 (see Fig. l) and placed in the receptacle A. When sutficient artic s from the boiler have been placed in said leceptacle the squeezer B is turned by means of the handle 18 to the position shown in Fig. ii, when enough pressure may be applied to the laundried articles to remove much of the excess water therein, it being; noted that it is desirable to have the surfade of the boiling Water somewhat below the base of the receptacle A so that natural drainage will assist in removing the Water from the boiled articles. After the removal of the free water in the manner indicated my device is lifted from the boiler bv me e of the handle 16 and the articles therein may be removed to be placed in rinsing water or otherwise disposed of.
Having described my invention What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
l. A foraminous bashetshaped receptacle having substantially vertical sides and provided. with hangers for engagement with the upper edges of boiler a foraminous squeezer hinged at one end to saio receptacle and adapted to tit snuglyinto the upper portion thereof and a handle upon the free end of said squeezer for pressing the same upon the contents of said. receptacle.
2. ll. foraminous receptacle formed and arranged to it into and partially occupy the opening in the top of a boiler and provided with hangers for engagement with the upper edges of a boiler, a foraminous basket shaped squeezer adapted to fit snugly into the upper portion thereof and a handle upon the upper side of the squeezer for pressing the same upon the contents of said receptacle.
Whereof, I have hereunto signed my name to this specification.
Mes. LENA J, SYVERSON.
