UNLOADING DEVICE FOR HEADER-BOXES.

Another object of the invention is to so construct this device that the tilting will increase as the false bottom moves upwardly to the elevated position and the false bottom then returned to a horizontal position `as 1t moves downwardly after dumping the load.

This header-box is provided with a bodyY Fig. 5'is anl enlarged fragmentary sectional view showing the clutch forengagor receptacle indicated in general by the numeral 1 Vand having one side wall 2 of greater height than the other, said wall 2 having an upper section 3 hingedly mounted so that it' may be swung down as indicated in Fig. 3 when unloading the header-box. At each end of this header-box there will be provided a standard or supportingarm 4 which extends above the header-box ata point intermediate its width and will be braced by the bracing bars 5 and 6 leading from the upper and lower ends of the vertical bar 7 Beneath the header-box there will be provided forward and rear supporting frames 8 and 9 which carry pulleys 10 and 11 the purpose of which will be hereinafter brought out. Pulleys l2 are 'carried by the standards 4 and pulleys 13 are carried by the upper end'portions yof the vertical arms 7 10 and 11.
A false bottom 14 fits into this headerbox and is provided with end bars 15 having slots 16 formed adjacent one side of the header-box and provided at their opposite ends with rollers'17 to engage the side wall 2 and thus provide means for permitting the false'bottom to move easily inthe headerbox. Cables 17, 18, 19 and 2O are connected with this false bottom 14, the cables 17a and 19 being connected with the pulleys'21 and being passed around the pulleys 12 and back to `the pulleys 21 around v the' wheel thereof and being then carried over the pulleys 12. The cable 17 will be led to engage l one of the forward pulleys v10 and the second cable 19 will be `led to engage one' of the-pulleys 11 and will then be carried forwardly beneath the bottomof the headerbox. It should be noted lthat the pulleys A21 have extended end portions providing `necks which pass through the slots 16 and carryk side rollers 22 which engage the false bot! tom and permit 'the pulleys to move easilyv in the slots 16.V The cables 18 and 2O will be connected with the pulleys 13 andA will thenl be carried aboutQthe pulleys 23 'connected with the falsebottom'and after being passed backthrough the pulleys 13.w ill again be brought' into engagement with the pulleys l2,3 and willbe carried'over the puland cooperate vwith the pulleysl the draft gear.

The forward cable 18 will engage the remaining pulley 10 and the cable 2O will engage the second pulley 11 and be then carried forwardly toward the forward end of the header-box. These cables are carried forwardly beyond the forward end of the header-box through a housing 24 and'pass between the locking levers 25 and clamping'bloclr 26 andhave their free ends connectedwith the double-tree 27 of These cables will be rethat when desired certain of the cables may be released from the double-tree. This double-tree will be of a conventional. construction and may be connected with the usual tongue of the vehicle when the header-box is being drawn across a field. l l
In the operation 0f this improved headerboX unloading device the draft-animals will be connected with the draft gear and the header-box can then be drawn vacross a field and loaded. While the header-box is being loaded the false bottom will remain in the bottom of the header-box and will not be moved as the header-box is drawn across a eld due to the fact that the double-trees will be connected with the tongue of the vehicle. After the header-box has been loaded and it is desired to empty the same the vehicle will be brought to a stop at the point where-it is desired to unload and the doubletree will then be released from the tongue. The draft-animals will then be driven forwardly and as they move forwardly will pull upon the cables thus causing the false bottom to be drawn upwardly. s the pulleys 23 and 13 are double pulleys and the pulleys 21 and 12 are single and double respectively, movement of the draft-animals forwardly va predetermined amount Vwill cause the side portion ofthe false bottom engaging the wall 2 to move slower than the opposite side and the false bottom will therefore be positioned at an incline and will slope toward the wall 2. Therefore when the false bottom is in the raised position the load can be easily passed out of the headerbox over the lowered upper section 3 of this wall 2. If the incline of the'false bottom should not for any reason be proper the cables 18 and 2O can be released from the double tree and engaged by 4their respective Vclamping lever. Thedraft-animals can then be moved forwardly or rearwardly until the false bottom is at the proper incline. It will be further noted that if it is desired to use the draft-animalsk for any purpose after the false bottom has been raised and while waitingfor the header'box to be unloaded the cables may all be engaged by their clamps andy the horses then disconnected. It willbe further noted that due to this construction the false. bottom may be retained in a raised position by clamping these cables and thus strain removed from the horses. After the header-box has been unloaded the draft-animals will be `backed into position and as they move rearwardly into position the false bottom will be lowered and will assume a horizontal position.
What is claimed is:
1. The combination with a header-box having sides; of standards connected with the header-box and extending above the same, a false bottom positioned in the header-box to ride upwardly upon one of the sides, pulleys connected with the standards, a draft appliance, and cables leadingfrom the draft appliance and over the pulleys of the .standards and connected with the false bottom for lifting said bottom'to an elevated and tilted position. The combination with a. header-box; of a false bottom mounted to move vertically therein, a draft appliance, cables connected with the draft appliance and with the false bottom whereby said bottom may be vertically adjusted through the medium of the cables. and dogs engaging the cables to releasably hold them and retain the false bottom in a vertically adjusted position.
