conismarronnnricm or FURNITURE Tb all whom it may 05mm of Poland, residing at Silver Creek, county of Merrick, and State of Nebraska, have in vented certain new. and useful Improvements in Combination Articles of Furniture, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in articles of furniture, and particularly those adapted for the use of campers and travelers in general.
The principal object of the lnventlon is to provide a device which may be compactly folded into small compass for conveniencein transportation, the device comprising parts which may be extended at length so as to afford a bed supported from the ground or floor, a feed box for animals, a seat and a tent affording shelter against the lnclemencies of the weather.
These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forminga material part of t is disclosure, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the entire apparatus in a folded position with the table plate extended.
Fig. 2 is a perspective detail view of the table.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken through the apparatus.
Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 44 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing certain of the interior parts arranged as a seat.
Fig. 6 is a similar view of the same, used as a feed box.
Fig. 7 is a perspective view of the device with the parts at one side extended at lengths.
Fig. 8 is a side view partly in section of the device when used as a bed.
Fig. 9 is a detail View of a cover plate.
Fig. 10 is a side elevation of the parts, Fig. 8 disposed in a shelter tent.
Fig. 11 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view, taken through the rails showing the 'oints thereof.
F1 12 is a fragmental perspective view showing the fabric used as a hammock or tent, and the connections engageable with the rails, and,
Fig. 13 is a plan view of the rails and fabric used as a hammock or bed.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented M 29, 1921 Application flied January 13, 1920. Serial R o. 351,207. r
The maincasing comprising the structure is composed of rigid end plates 10 and 11. The end plate 10 is provided with openings forwthe passage ofthe legs 12 of a table 13 which is shown in extended position in Fig. 2 and to the plate of which is attached a handle 12 within a depression 12 by means of which it may be readily transported by hand.
Firmly secured between the end plates is a rear or back plate 14, joined to a side plate or wall 15, having engaged in its outer edges by hinges 16, the oppositely disposed front plate 17, the outer edge having upon it hinges l8, connecting with the cover plate 19, the edge joints between the several lates being beveled, so that they may be folded at right angles without difliculty.
Secured upon the outer edge of the cover plate 19 is an extending pin 20, a hook 21 being pivoted to the upper edge of the back plate 14, so as to engage with the pin and hold the structure firmly together when in a folded position.
Extendin inward from the back plate 14, are a pair 0 rigid pins 23, while rising from the plates 16, 17 and 19 are opposed pairs of brackets 24 having open recessed heads 25 at their upper ends, these recesses being in register with the endsof the pins 23.
The recesses 25 are receptive of the hollow tubular rails 28, united centrally in their length by the hinge joints 29, the ends of the tubular rails being adapted to enga e with the extending pins 23, thus provi ing an effective support for the rails, between which is disposed a sheet of textile fabric 30, adapted to fold along the line 31, and which has secured upon its lateral edges, sprling clips 32 by which it is secured to the rai s.
Engageable with the interior of the structure, when in a folded position, are the legs 34 of a stand, these legs being pivoted together by pins 35, their extending ends 36 being engageable within the openings 37 formed in the cover plate 38, so that the same may be used as a seat, while secured to the upper elements of the legs 34, are diagonal sides 40 connected by V shaped ends 41, forming an angular structure adapted to dispense feed to animals, when the structure is not used as a seat.
When it is desired the fabric 30 and support rails, may be disposed in the manner indicated in Fig. 10 by supporting the fabric 30 between two of its hinged parts by means of a suitable sectional post 42 as indicated in said figure, thus providing an efficient shelter tent.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is new and desire to secure by Letters'Patent', is-
In a device of the classdescribed the com: bination with a rectangular structure having one'rigid end wall, bottom and side wall, a plurality of plates hingedly engaged along their longitudinal'edges forming the opposite side and a cover of said structure, brackets arranged upon the lnner surfaces of said plates, pins extending inward from the rigid side element of said structure, said pins and brackets being in alinement, sectional tubular rails hingedly joined at their center, said rails being adapted to engage with said pins and rest in said brackets, a sheet of Lextile fabric, and spring clips secured to the edges ofsaid sheet, said clips being engageable with said rails, whereby said sheet of flexible material is held in an extended position.
In testimony whereof I have ailixed my signature.
7 JOE SIKOROR.
It is hereby certified that in Letters Patent No. 1,373,150, granted March 29,
1921, for an improvement in Combination Articles of Furniture, the name of the petentee is erroneously Written and printed as Joe Sikoror, whereas said name should have been written and printed as J 06 Sikorct; end that the said Letters Patent should he read with this correction therein that the same may eon form to the record of the ease in the Patent Ofliee.
Signed and sealed this 7th day of June, A. D. 1921.
