a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plunger-Valves," of which the following is a specification. 1
Parts of plunger valves used for dis charging water at high velocities are sub jected to erosion and to the seeming action oil the water and, from time to time, have to be renewed, in such cases it is usual to install another or emergency valve ahead oi the operating valve used for regulating the liow, so that the water can be cut oil from the regulating or operating valve for re pairs.
The principal object of the present inven tion is to combine in one structure a plunger emergency shut-off valve and a plunger operating valve in such a way that the flow can be stopped by the emergency valve and repairs made to the operating valve, thus providing a cheaper and more compact an rangement than is provided by the use all two separate valve structures.
The invention will be claimed at the end hereof, but it may be said to consist in the combination in a unitary separable structure of an operating plunger valve and an ether gency shut-oil plunger valve substantially as will be described in connection with the ac conipanying drawing which is an illustra tion principally in central section,

Plunger 11, may be opened by exhausting chamber 15, to the atmosphere through connection 18. When plunger 11, is standing open, sometimes 1? and 18, are closed; when plunger 11, is closed connection 17, is open to exhaust and 18 is open to pressure. Plunger 19;, may be opened and closed in any of ways known to those skilled in the art;as shown thereispro-videdaport 19, and a port 20, and the port 950, is controlled by a valve 21, operated by valve gear 22, in a manner well understood by those slrilled in the art in order to open and close the plunger 1%., When this valve gear is used, the head 16, may be dished and pocketed, as shown, to coiiperate with it as a guide.
The valve structure is unitary and there fore comparatively inexpensive and very compact and yet t provides an emergency shut-oil" plunger valve and an operating plungervalve to which and to the parts oil which access can be readily had for repairs, 1
while the water is shut oft by the emergency plunger valve, by the simple operation oi? disconnecting the parts at the circumien ential parting 6, and alter the repairs or removals have been made the parts may be readily reassembled.

I claim:
1. ll unitary separable valve structure comprising the combination of detachably to the atmosphere,

A unitary separable valve structure comprising the combination of a pair of detachably connected casings tapering toward their free ends and provided with radial ribs and with abutting internal cylinders providing a water way between the cylinders and the casing and through the structure, a head for separating the inner ends of the cylinders, reversely disposed hollow plungers cooperating with the respective tapering ends of the casings and arranged in the cylinders and forming therewith annular and internal chambers, and means for closing the np-stream plunger to shut the fluid way and permit of detachment of the down-stream plunger and its accessory cylinder and casing.
4. A unitary separable valve structure comprising the combination of detachably connected casings tapering toward their free ends and equipped internally with abutting cylinders providing a water way around them, reversely disposed hollow plungers cooperating with the tapering ends of the casings and of which the down-stream one is provided with a valve and mechanical valve gear, a head carried by one of the cylinders and accommodating the valve gear, and means for closing the up-stream plunger to shut the fluid way and permit detachment of the down-stream plunger and its accessory cylinder and casing and valve gear.
5.- A unitary separable valve structure provided with a water way through it and of which the sections are provided with reversely disposed lunger valves and their complemental cyhnders forming the inner wall of the water way and of which one is headed near the parting of the structure, substantially as described.
5. A unitary separable valve structure having a water way through it and of which the sections are provided with reversely disposed plunger valves, hydraulic means for operating said plunger valves independently of each other, and means for holding the plunger closed against'pressure to permit dismantling the down stream section of said valve structure.
