Description

G. W. HOWES.
FIREPOT.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT 5, 191's.
Patented Mar. 22, 1921.
7 UNITED I STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
GEORGE W. HOWES, F DOWAG-IAC, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO BEGKWITH COMPANY, 0F DOWAGIAC, MICHIGAN". I
rianror.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 5, 1919. Serial No. 321,918.
To cilia/1.0m it may concern Be it known that I. Gnonsn W. Homes, a citizen oi the United. States, residing at Dowagiac, county of Cass, State of Michigan, have invented certain. new and useful Improvements in. Firepots, of which the "following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in fire pots.
The main object of this invention is to provide an improved fire pot for cooking stoves and ranges which effectively feeds air to the fuel and is very durable in that the walls do not become overheated in use and which. also prevents the oven 01' adjacent parts from becoming unduly heated.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in. the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which:
Figure I is a detail plan view of a stove embodying the features of my invention, portions only of the stove being illustrated.
Fig. II is a plan view of the outer wall member of the fire pot.
Fig. III is a front view thereof.
Fig. IV is a fragmentary detail perspective view showing the relation of the inner and outer wall members and the supporting frame.
Fig. V is a front view of one of the inner wall sections.
Fig. VI is a vertical section through the firepot wall members on a line corresponding to line 6-6 of F ig. I.
In the drawing similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawing 1 represents the body of a stove such as a cooking stove or range and 2 the grate of the fire pot. The rear wall of the fire pot comprises an outer wall member 3 having a series of vertical inclined ribs 4 thereon and a horizontal bottom-bar 5 at the base of the ribs providing a plurality of vertical channels 6 open at sembled and in the the rear or outer side of said; bottom bar. The outer wall member has vertical shoulders 7 at its ends and attaching ears 8.
I provide an inner wall comprising a plurality of sections 9 which are disposed on the bar 5 between the shoulders 7 with the ends oh the sections abutting. The sections have lugs 10 which engage behind the bar 5. The upper edges oi? the sections are curved rearwardly at 11 to overhang the rear wall member. The sections have vertical air slots 12 and between the slots are a series of boss-like projections 13 of downwardly tapered or V shape having V shaped.
recesses in their upper ends the tip of one pro ection extending into the recess of the projection below.
With this arrangement of parts the air circulates freely through the channels 6 and through the openings 12 of the fire pot. The projections support the fuel so that the air inlets 12 are not likely to become clogged and so that the air can pass into the fuel. at substantially all points along the rear side of the fire pot, thus greatly improving combustion and increasing the heating capacity of the stove.
A further advantage of my construction is that the walls do not become unduly heated and thereby the life of the fire pot walls is greatly increased. And a still further advantage is that the oven at the rear of the fire pot is not unduly heated at this point.
The inner wall sections may be easily asevent of their burning out can be replaced by the user as they are retained merely by seating or resting them upon the rear wall member, as illustrated.
I have shown only such parts of a stove as seem to be necessary to illustrate an embodiment or adaptation of my invention. I have not attempted to illustrate or describe other embodiments or adaptations which I contemplate as I believe the disclosure made will enable those skilled in the art to which my invention relates to embody or adapt the same as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a fire pot, the combination of an outer wall member having vertical inclined ribs thereon and a horizontal bottom bar at Patented Mar. 22, 1921..
ti l
' the base of said ribs providing a plurality of vertical channels open at the rear of said bottom bar, said outer wall being provided with vertical shoulders at its ends and with attaching ears, and an inner wall comprising sections disposed on said bar between said shoulders and havlng retaining lugs engaging said bar between said ribs, the upper U edges of said inner Wall sections being curved outwardly to overhang the outer wall said inner wall sections being provided with air inlet openings. Y
2. In a fire pot, zthe combination of an outer Wall member provided with attaching members at its ends, and having vertical inclined ribs thereon and horizontal bottom bar at the base of said ribs providing a plurality of vertical channels open at the rear of said bottom bar, and an inner wall comprising sections disposed on said bar and having retaining lugs engaging said bar be tween said ribs, the upper edges of said in- V .nerwall sect-ions being curved outwardly to overhang the outer wall, said inner wall sections being provided with air inlet openings.
.3; In a fire pot, the combination of an outer Wall member having vertical inclined ribs thereon and a horizontal bottom bar at the base of said ribs providing a plurality of vertical channels open at the rear of said bottom bar and an inner wall comprising sections disposed on said bar, the upper edges of said inner wall sections being curved outwardly to overhang the outer wall said inner wall sections being provided with air inlet openings.
4. In a fire pot, the combination oi an outer wall member provided with attaching members at its ends and having vertical ribs thereon and a horizontal bottom bar at the base of the ribs providing a plurality of channels open at the bottom and close to the rear end, an inner wall t'Olllprising sections disposed on said bar, the upper edges of said wall sections being curved rearwardly to overhang the outer wall but spaced therefrom, said inner wall sections being provided with air openings.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two witnesses.
