To all whom z't/may concern Be it known that I, ANTHONY L. Censor,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Vineland, in the county of Cumberland and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door- Operating Mechanism, of which the followin is a specification.
y invention relates to improvements in door operating mechanism, particularly adapted for garage doors. The object of my invention is to operate the door by an electric motor and to provide a switch for controlling the motor to open and close the door; a further object of my invention is to provide switches for stopping the motor automatically when the door reaches the open or closed position; a still further object of my invention is to provide a cushioning device for stopping the door without shock or jar after the motor is stopped, and a still further object of my invention is to provide a safety device for supporting the door in case the supporting cable should break.
Referring to the accompanying drawings; Figure 1, is a view in elevation showing a door and the door frame or guides and showing my invention embodied therein; Fig. 2, is a perspective view of a switch and the means for operating the same; and

n the accompanying drawings, in which like reference characters refer to like parts,
1 represents a door mounted in verticalguides 2 and 3 in which the door'slides vertically. The door is operated by an electric motor 5 adapted to rotate in either direction. A shaft 6 is driven by the motorthiough gear wheels 7 and '8, the belt 9 and belt pulley 10 secured to said shaft 6 or by any other suitable means. A flexible member 12, in the form'of a sprocket chain or cable, is secured to the door- 1 and to a counter-weight 14, the flexible member 12 passing over a sheave 15 and a pulley 16. The sheave 15 is driven by the shaft 6 through a friction clutch 18 interposed between the shaft 6 and the sheave l5. Said clutch 18 is adjusted so as to exert only the door is properly counter-balanced and to slip in case the motor is not stopped at the time the door is acted upon by the cushioning device. 1
The motor 5 is controlled by a hand switch 20, which may be located in any part of the building. The hand switch 20 controls two electric circuits for operating the motor 5 in different directions, to raise or lowerthe door. Said electric circuits are shown diagrammatically in the drawings. Each electric circuit from the hand switch 20 includes a switch operated automaticall by the door, which latter is provided wit a cam 22 for engaging the switch arms.
The said automatically operated switches 30 and 31 are similar in construction, each comprising a knife switch 34, inclosed in a casing 35 which is secured in a fixed position to the guide frame 2, or other stationary member. The pivoted knife 36 is moved by a connecting rod 37 attached to a lever 40 pivoted at one end in a fixed bearing 41. The free end of the lever 40 projectsinto the path of the cam 22 carried by the door. Said lever 10 is shaped in the form of a right angle so that the knife switches ma be located upon the side of the guide rame 2 opposite to the door. The lever 40 moves in a guide member 43 provided with a stop pin 44 against which the lever 40 is moved, by the action of a spring45, when the arm 40 is free from the cam 22 upon the door. Said lever 40 is also provided at its free end with a roller 46 which readily rides over the cam 22, which latter moves the lever 40 into the position in which the switch 31,
