IMPRQJEMENT IN TABLE-LEAF SUPPORTS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No, 337,087, dated lMarch 25, 1875i.

To all whom it may concern.:

Beit known that 1, AUG-usr MARCHAND, of Lyons, in the county of Ionia and State ot' Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Table-Leaf Supports 5 and I do declare that the following is a true and aconrate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing a-nd to the letters or" reference marked thereon and being a part of this specification, in which- Figure l represents a partial perspective view of my invention taken from below, and Fig. 2 a partial perspective view taken from one side. y

The nature of this invention relates to an improvement in a spring-Hy, for the purpose of holding up the fall-leaf, so arranged as to make an easy and convenient method of rais ing and lowering` a table-leaf, that will be cheap, strong, and durable, and, when the leai" is dropped, be entirely out of the way. The invention consists in the novel spring-ily for holding the fall-leaf, as more fully hereinafter described.

In the accompanying drawing, E is a ily or brace, made in the form shown, which is secured to the under side of the leaf by means ot a screw passing-through the brace into the plate F, which is there secured to the leaf'. A spring, G, is interposed between the brace and plate, so arranged that when the leaf is raised it will cause the brace to partially rotate on its screw pivot and project under the leaf to sustain the same. It will be seen that the lower and inner end of the brace will then rest against the rail H ot1 the table. The upper end is cut awa-y, as shown, and is tted with a metallic stop, I, which,when the brace is extended at right angles with the rail H., rests against the screw-head J in said rail. Varying the position of this screw-head, as occasion may require, will regulate the plane of the leaf. l

llhis hook-stop I relieves the butts or hinges from the weight of the leaf when extended.

The iiy or brace E, plate F, spring G, and hook-stop I, in combination with the screw-V head J, table-rail II, and fall-leaf, when the partsare specilically constructed and arranged to operate as and for the purposes set forth.
