To all whom it may concern:

1 Be it known that I, JOHN A. MANDIS, a citizen of the United States, residin at Hi hland, in the county of Wayne and tate of hlichigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to clasps or fasteners and has for its object the provision of a novel fastening device adapted to be passed through a neck tie and through a shirt front, or a button-hole in the latter whereby to hold the tie straight and prevent it not only from blowing, but from any lateral derangement.

An important object is the provision of a device of this character which includes a pair of separable members, one adapted for disposition at the front of the tie and the other adapted for straddling engagement upon the shirt front, these members being detachably connected and novel means being provided for preventing casual separation thereof.

An additional object is the provision of a device of this character which will not only ,be neat and attractive in appearance, but

which will also be highly efficient in use, durable in service, as well as inexpensive to manufacture, and a general improvement in the art.

lVith the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of my device upon a neck tie,

Referring more particularly to the drawings, the letter A designates a neck tie and B designates the front of a shirt. In carrying out my invention I provide a member 10 which is formed from a single piece of .metal bent into U-shape, as shown. The

rear arm of this member 10 is formed with a convex projection 11 which is formed cen trally with a small hole 12. The front arm of the member 10 is formed with a small hole 18 registering with a hole 12 and counter-sunk, as. shown at 14, to define a flaring entrance opening.

Disposed within the member 10 is a pair of members 15, each of which is formed from a single piece of metal and including spaced blade-like portions 16 and handle portions 17 which are trough-shaped with their closed sides outermost. These members' 15 are pivot-ed at 18, and the pivot is surrounded by a spring 19 having the ends of its arms engaging the handle mem bers 17 for normally forcing the handle members apart. The members 15 are so arranged that the blade portions 16 thereof will overlap and each pair of blade members is formed with arcuate slots 20.

Associated with this portion of the device is a head 21 formed preferably as a plate of any desired shape and size and which may be made highly ornamental if desired. This head carries a shank 22 which is pointed and which is adapted to be passed through the neck tie.

The use of the device is as follows:

The pointed shank 22 is forced through the neck tie with the head 21 disposed against the outer side thereof. The head is so positioned that the shank 22 may be passed through a button-hole in the front of the shirt or may be pushed through the front of the shirt, as preferred, it really making no difference which mode of procedure is adopted as the shank 22 is nothing much more than a pin. The operator then grasps the other or U-shaped portion of the device first described, and places it in straddling engagement upon the shirt front with the shirt front engaged between the blades, and then engages his fingers against the outer sides of the handle members 17, after which he presses these members together which results in swinging the blade portions 16 into overlapping relation within the confines of the body 10. This brings the slots 20 in registering position. The shank 22 is then inserted through the hole 13, through the slots 20,, and through the hole 12, after which theoperator releases his grasp upon the handle members 17 whereupon the spring 19 operating to force the handle While I have shownqand described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it

is of course to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction, and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

1.
