of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a device for raising and lowering the presser foot and presser foot bar of sewing machines," and its object is to provide an improveddevice for this purpose and which is universally ap-- plicable to all types of sewing machines.

Mechanism for raising and lowering the presser foot of a sewing machine, comprising a flexible but non extenslble member operatively connected at one end to the presser foot; a pivotal manually operable 5 lever connected to the other end of said member; a flexible but incompressible member surrounding the firstvnamed member to guide said member; and fixed abutments against which the ends ofthe second named member abut, whereby movement of said lever inone direction pulls the first named memberand thereby lifts the presser foot.

Mechanism for raising and lowering the presser foot of a sewing machine comprising in combination, a clip attached to the presser foot bar; a compression spring on the presser foot bar tending to force the 40- presser foot into operative position; a bracket attached to the sewing machine head; a stranded wire attached tosaid clip and passing through said bracket; a tube of closely coiled wire supported at one end '45 by said bracket and containing said wire after it has passed through said bracket, said wire being slidable in said tube; a member which is stationary relative to said presser foot; a frame secured to said memher; a bracket secured to said frame, a tubular member adjustable on said bracket and abutting against the other end of said tube, with said wire extending therethrough; a manually operable lever mounted on said 56 frame; and an adjustable member mounted on said leverand secured to the other end of said wire; for the hereinbefore specified purpose. 1 V
